  1. I have basically the same setup... I only plan on running 600-800 gph through the sump so my return pump is easily handled by my 1400VA UPS. Given the rarity and duration of our power problems just keeping some flow going should be fine imo. I'm estimating around 2-3 hours of runtime. Cheap insurance.
  2. I think jpeg is more than sufficient for most uses unless you're a pro and selling a product...especially at the low levels of compression that most cameras are capable of. The only thing I worry about is the editing software I use and how it saves (or re-saves...) You want something that works on the uncompressed image and recompresses vs. recompressing a compression and always losing detail at each iteration. my .02. Ben nice pics, btw... a tripod makes all the difference. Even if it's just a bar stool.
  3. What!! Sometimes it hard to reach where it needs rubbed... :p
  4. I use vinegar too... a little goes a long way. Bleach is next when it gets really bad at about the same dilution (a 1/4 cup to a gallon?). On skimmers I find it requires good old elbow grease on the brown stuff. I just rub it under hot water with paper towels and whatever tool helps me reach where it needs rubbed.
  5. I agree. I had one about 4 inches long in my old 26 gallon tank and they never caused me any trouble. Click the box in the 3rd row 2nd column here. Ben
  6. Check this out for some basic info... http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/showthread.php?t=85 Ben
  7. Hey thanks for compliments, again... it makes the hours put into it all the more worthwhile. I think it looks good Chief! When it comes down to it it's about fussing over the details and not cutting corners... I can tell you're into that too. And I'm thinking we definitley need to get some official 'PNWMAS Cheerleader' t-shirts and get one to your wife at the very least... I'm glad to have an official available, Spayne... Thanks! Ben
  8. I like it. More compact and gives you the info you want right away. I used to hang out on nano-reef a couple years ago and really like the index page there... recent threads and recent gallery additions. In fact, my bookmark to this site has always been .../search.php?do=getnew anyway.
  9. couldn't you use the calculators on ups.com, fedex.com, etc? With the box dims, weight and some zip codes you should be able to get a good average...
  10. What kind of work did you do, Cuda?
  11. Thanks for the really nice responses... I appreciate it I'm 6'5" and the tank is only 20" so I'll be fine I much prefer the higher stands for viewing than more standard heights. I debated going to 40" but didn't like the visual imbalance it created with the other dims. yes and if I didn't love doing it I would have set it on fire several times throughout the many design changes. Overall I prefer the clean modern lines and I'm glad I stopped where I did. There is always the next stand to try new things on... Just out of curiosity what kind of dollar figure would the average reefer place on a custom furniture grade cabinet? I know upscales regularly has cabinets in the $600 and up category...if I were to place a value on this based on material and labor it would probably be around $700-800. If I had the time I would love to build furniture on the side... Thanks for your thoughts, Ben
  12. You just can't leave it alone, can you? I like all the changes...the google map is cool too... glad I don't have admin access or I might not sleep either....
  13. It's been a long on-going project stuck between several other projects but I finally completed the cabinet for a new setup...I just might, someday, be able to look at my livestock from the front again instead of from the top of the rubbermaid that everything currently lives in. DOH! I have a 100g tank waiting for this... The stands is for a 4'x2' footprint and stands 36" tall. Maple hardwood and ply with walnut inlays in the top, bottom moulding, and at the handles. It has diamond plunge stop fluting on the side trim and bookmatched door panels... full height interior with a removable center brace and full 3/4" material throughout for sound dampening. Three coats of finish and caulked interior seams for spill protection. huh A pic may say it better. All I have to do now is spend a grand on equipment and figure out how to put it all in there... anyone have a grand laying around? Ben
  14. If the filter is above the water level why in the world would you risk using a two pump system to circulate the water? Why not just let it overflow back to the tank? I can't imagine the two pumps will stay balanced over time...if it's not constantly adjusted even a dirty impeller could mean water on the floor.
  15. Tyree of course is using it heavily with his tri-zonal systems and I've read several others (such as mojoreef) contemplating it after discussing it with Tyree. I think the benefits are there and worth the risk... but I've read very little about it.
  16. call me crazy but I think he meant the live variety... ?

  18. It happened 12 hours later if you're not the military type
  19. now thats sad I lost a head of neon green candy cane to mine. And back to the topic... I have nothing remotely worth mentioning.
  20. Thanks to all that are working hard to get the website up.. it' looks great I just wanted to suggest that we adopt the thread view that trt uses ( or a similiar one) that places the user info on the left hand side of the post instead of in a header/bar above each post. It makes for an easier read. As more and more people get their avatars up the headers will grow and a page of 10 posts will be 10 feet long Just a thought... then again, for short posts it doesn't really make a difference in space usage but I think it's a little easier to read through the thread... Ben
