  1. So i headed over to Eugene Toy and Hobby. Lack of inventory, so i made do with what was available and picked up an assortment of RC boat props. I also found these awesome wheels that will work great for securing the end of the shaft. Dumas boat prop try #1 Impeller put back together DIY style Attempt #1 in water. It works great, moves decent amount of water. I used a scrap piece of 1.5" ABS as a shroud/nozzle and the flow really increased. It must direct it much better.
  2. Ok so i've been following the maxijet mod over at RC and decided to take a crack at it. The idea is to take a maxijet and turn it into a Seio/Tunze type stream. I have a couple MJ1200 but from what i read they will be to much flow for my 55 i'm setting up. So...i'll be picking up a few MJ600-900 pumps from Sean for that. But for now, i have a crappy old Regent powerhead i thought i'd give it a try on. It actually works, how much flow, well its much more than the PH was. I still need to finish the shroud that covers the propeller. Well here is how I faired: Walmart special Impeller taken apart. This powerhead uses a floating magnet. Meaning it is not fixed to the stainless (and beginning to rust) shaft. The shaft stays put, the magnet and impeller spin around it.
  3. Did you see the retirement package laid out for the Chairman of Exxon/Mobile? $400 million, plus $1 mil a year consultant fee, personal security, home security, drivers, full use of the company jet. You can't tell me they aren't just making an absolute killing on us if they can dole out that kind of money to one guy. $2+ a gallon is one of the biggest monopolistic crimes ever.
  4. FWIW it killed all hermits, an emerald crab, a porcelin crab, and lots and lots of pods at the recommended dosage in my tank. After 1 week redbugs were still present on corals, although in much reduced numbers. There are lots of threads in the SPS forum at RC pertaining to cyno outbreaks after treating with interceptor. Mike had it happen as well i believe. But if you have a mature tank with good LR, this treatment is fairly simple and does not affect other corals.
  5. 3 treatments a week apart. Some people have treated and not experienced the cyno, some have. Not sure why that is, maybe the ppl who get it have more die-off. Incoming corals now get the full dip treatment. 6 hours in interceptor, then 30 min in concentrated FWE and lugols dips. There is a fairly new dip that has gotten good reviews. I guess its supposed to get the AEFW and redbugs as well as all other pests we currently do not want. Its called Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure. Good luck finding it though. http://www.tropic-marin.com/web/english/produkte/pro-coral-cure.htm
  6. Got mine yesterday. Will be trying it out this weekend. I was a little worried when i opened it and saw a packet of brown powder too. The envelope did not have a return address and looked rather plain.
  7. Its a heartworm medicine for dogs called Interceptor. Sorry to hear that Theron. I got a huge cyno outbreak when i treated my tank. Hope it goes ok for you. Here is the link for how to treat them http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=439155
  8. I would add some thing that eats detrius. Ceriths are great for this. A little more flow, add the ceriths and your detruis prob should be solved

    tank stand

Did the flood happen while the tank was running? You might just have too much water in the system. Or you might have more flow than the overflow can handle. Try putting a ball/gate valve on the return line and throttle it back a bit. Can you dial down the skimmer to the min water level to keep it from overflowing?
  17. I love my 14k hammies too, perfect mix of color IMO. You could try the 15k XMs, and if you have the $ the radiums get great ratings.
  18. Hmmm, you should set up another tank for these guys. Then go pickup that scorpion fish from Sean and let them all play. That would be one sweet tank. hungry hungry hungry hungry (drinking)

    Sweet!!!!

Well you can make that price come down quite a bit. You can get a lesser processor for about half that price and overclock it if you need more speed out of it. Hardrives are 20 bucks now, i just got a Maxtor 120gig for $20 after rebates. Thats 175 off the price on just those 2 things. Most of us have CD/DVD drives around. Those cases can be had for 50 bucks. Still you can have a nice, small, compact, fast system for under 500.

Well there are many places that sell these mini enclosures. If you are into DIY like me, you have so many other options. Basically any plastic box can be a PC enclosure. But here are some links for ya http://www.mini-itx.com - lots here http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=177654&source=shopzilla http://www.iboxpc.com/shopping/home.php There are probably at least a thousand others.
  23. Ok sat in front of the tank for another 20 min just staring at these 2 corals. Man, with the obious exception of the bleached/dead spots, the corals look fine. The purple acro actually has some new flesh growing over the bleached area, good news. The slimer has PE on the stalk of it now, whereas the last few days it has had none. The bleaching looks to have stopped. Even has PE where i cut a branch off a few weeks ago. I'll get some new pics tonight.
