  1. I just sent back one of the Stealth heaters for the recall, and they offered me one of these visitherms as replacement. Glad I passed! Although i have had no probs with my titanium visitherm....
  2. Since my house was built in 06 the power hasn't gone out once. But my new truck has a built-in 100w and 400w inverter, so i'm covered for the short term
  3. Couple shots of the green terror i kept in a 55gal for a few years
  4. Yah, i generally change about 1/3-1/2 the water in my QT weekly. I just use the old water from my display since i do weekly WCs on it.
  5. I recently built a 12x12x12 cube out of glass and have been itching to get some FW fish in it. I'd like to get some killifish and plants in there.
  6. You can get the SWC 160 cone from bigalsonline.com for $250 shipped.
  7. Yes carbon will take the copper out of the water but as Jesse stated you won't want to use the rock or sand once its been in water with copper. A QT tank shouldn't have sand or rock anyway, due to the fact that often we dose meds in the QT tank. My QT consists of a 20L tank, a pump, a heater, a light, a small skimmer (do not necessarily need this), and an ATO. Here is a pic Here is a pic of a 5gal tank i used for awhile as my QT. Pretty basic, no skimmer or ATO on this one.
  8. Found some pics venturi - ignore the white PVC bushing, i didn't use that. I used the stock intake fitting where the old venturi was located.
  9. No prob. I had the DNW200 for over a year and it really rocked with those mods. I used a 1/4" nylon barb fitting for the venturi and put it up as close to the impeller as possible while still being able to remove the volute for cleaning. I used a PVC elbow to go from the pump to skimmer body, using a reducer on the pump side, and i covered the male union fitting coming from the skimmer body with teflon tape to help seal it. Mesh modding the impeller is the single best mod on these skimmers. Almost doubles the air intake. Good luck! Ask away if you have questions

  11. I don't think your plan will work out too well on that skimmer. The best mods for that version are: meshmod the impeller increase venturi size increase outlet size from pump to skimmer body
  12. Yah its been 6 days and that hasn't happened so i need to do it manually. Membership is not a per month basis, that page is a little confusing I know. Its a year membership. You select the month you plan to join, and your membership will run thru December. At that point you must renew your yearly membership.

    60g cube

Thanks Roy. I thought out the plumbing for awhile. I also included another exit line in the return plumbing for a frag tank to fit down in the stand. Or I might use it as a way to drain water when i do WCs, not sure yet. You can see the red handle for the ball valve in the 2nd to last picture. I had 1 leak you can see all the blue glue there between the T and union, and I ruined 1 bulkhead by screwing into it too much causing it to split. I had to replace it with a sched 80 bulkhead since they are the same price as normal bulkheads here in Eugene - $25!!!
  14. I use em too, got my set for 20 bucks! Great pics Jacob!
  15. Cool thanks for the info. This is my first acrylic tank so i'll take all the suggestions i can!
  16. Wow those are incredible. I'd be interested as well. Did any of those sopranos make it BTW?

    60g cube

My next step is finishing a temporary rack to hold the pendant, its basically just some ABS pipe and fittings so that won't take long. Then after the SG is in range, i'll add a few pieces of LR that have been in my QT tank for about 3 weeks and start adding MB7 to kick start the bacteria. I also need to figure out the aquascape. I have several dry rocks, but i'm thinking they are too large and need to be broken up to maximize surface area for corals. I think i'm gonna have to bribe Jon to come over and help since he's awesome at scaping

    60g cube

Bringing this back from the dead. I ended up keeping the tank, and for the meantime i'm moving my 75gal over into this tank since i've been dragging my feet on the 93g glass cube. I hope to finish that this summer. But i need to finish the floor where the tanks are, so that means emptying the 75gal. So i've got some more pics to share as I set this thing up Here it is moved into place. I picked up some matting typically used for a shop or something. It came as 4 squares that have teeth to fit together. Got it at Harbor Freight, thanks for the suggestion Mike! I cut this stuff to fit under the stand and under both the display tank and sump. I still had a square left over too Here are some pics of the plumbing. I plumbed the carbon/GFO reactor inline with the return pump, and its got its own shutoff valve as well. I picked up another SWC 160 cone since I love the one on my 75gal so much. Bigalsonline.com has these new for $250 shipped
  20. Good to hear! I'm gonna clean the sides tonight! I've also got those white pads for cleaning acrylic, kinda look like scotch pads. Had to find em, they were buried in a box. I use these for my skimmer and they don't scratch either.
  21. This is going to have to be wiped off, i've already tried powerhead/baster. I'm thinking of trying one of those magic eraser sponges.....
  22. Can anyone give me a tip to remove the sand dust on the sides of my acrylic cube? I rinsed the sand but it still had some dust in there. I just really don't want to scratch the inside walls before its stocked. I already scratched the outside a few times (flame)
  23. I'm not yet sure when the House votes on it From http://oregonhomebrewersalliance.org/ Senate clears the way for home brewers, winemakers to share and compete SALEM – The Senate passed legislation this morning that will allow amateur beer and wine makers to share their products outside their homes and to enter amateur competitions. SB 444 was crafted in response to an Attorney General’s opinion that led to the cancellation of amateur homemade beer and wine competitions at the 2010 Oregon State Fair. That cancellation drew significant attention to how homemade beer and wine is treated in Oregon statute. “I was shocked by last year’s ruling. My brew partner was extremely concerned because we brew at my house. Under current law, he would be subject to prosecution for transporting his portion home,” said Senator Floyd Prozanski (D-Eugene), a home brewer since 1987 who has won recognition for his beer. “This bill addresses the problems in this outdated statute and frees the home brew from unnecessary and prohibitive limitations.” As it stands, statute put into law in the 1930s does not allow Oregonians who make homemade wine or beer to transport their beverages for consumption at another private residence. The statute also raises questions about whether receiving a prize at a homebrew competition or paying dues to a club counts as a financial payment for the beverage, which would require a license from the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC). “Current law places an unreasonable limitation on a legitimate and popular hobby,” said Senate Majority Leader Diane Rosenbaum (D-Portland). “Many of Oregon’s famous craft breweries started with people making small batches in their homes. Home brewing and winemaking is part of Oregon’s unique character and this legislation will allow it to continue and grow. SB 444 expands the exemption for homemade beer, wine, and fermented fruit juice from the Liquor Control Act. The bill allows Oregonians to make, keep, store, transport, and consume homemade wine, beer, and fermented fruit juice. SB 444 also allows home brewers and winemakers to pay dues or event admission fees to participate in a club or an organization activity or event that includes tasting of homemade wine, beer, and fermented fruit juice. Additionally, home brewers and winemakers can receive a tax deduction or credit for donating beer, wine, or fermented fruit juice to a nonprofit organization. The bill now goes to the House for consideration.
  24. SB444 passed the OR Senate unanimously today with no debate! On to the House!
