Lastly, I want to apologize to the folks that have emailed me. I have received a few emails but have been on the road. I flew into Denver last night, I hired someone for the central portion of the country today, I leave tomorrow for tradeshow prep tomorrow and Friday, tradeshow this weekend etc etc. I want to review everyone’s emails carefully, and I’ve been too distracted with the situation.
I’m not ignoring you! Just waiting until I am not distracted.

Curious' date=' what is a good "personality fit" for the Sunlight job posted here?[/quote']
Honest, ethical, serving attitude, high energy, self motivating, innovative, and organized.
-
I thought Sunlight Supply didnt re-up their sponsorship is why there is no forum.
This is correct, it was an oversite but we missed the deadline. You will see us back up in no time once we get squared away again.
-
Drug test? For a company that sells grow lights? I'm just sayin... sheesh. Not that I can't pass but that is odd. (:
Kate
Actually Sunlight Supply has a very strict rule regarding drug use etc. We do not market to "that crowd" including magazines that are directly marketing to illicit use. If our customers inform us they intend to use the products we sell for illegal activity we will not sell to them. You wont find pot leaves on products at Sunlight Supply etc.
Lets please not turn this thread into a debate on this topic, if you'd like to start a different one your welcomed to, but I really want to keep this thread about the opportunity at hand.
I do not know where the Sunlight Supply forum went, otherwise I would have posted this in that section. That's yet another topic itself.

never ran it dry...I do this for a living. call it what you want, the seal failed, they are the ones saying it was a bad batch and sent me a new one...hence mixed experience not bad experience. A seal failing will cause water to leak... and I have never heard of a pump with so many people having to replace seals multiple times in the life of a pump...makes me think they are profiting off of seal sales rather than fix the issue.
QUOTE]
Ive never really heard of them charging anyone for seals, so I doubt thats the issue. Not much profit in free seals
-
OK, its just a verbage thing. The seal is not a bearing at all, its actually two ceramic rings that slide against each other, thats what makes the seal. There is a spring that keeps constant pressure on the two pieces of ceramic to make it hold water tight. Are you sure you never ran the pump dry? Runnign the pump dry for more than a few seconds will heat these ceramic rings to the point of failure very quickly.
The bearings are on the motor/dry end.

I have had mixed experiences with REEFLO help, I personally don't use them anymore. Had so many issues with them they were practically on speed dial. Good customer service is a good thing but why dont they fix the problem? (probably cuz they still profit if they dont) I have had countless bearings go out. I heard they had a bad batch of replacement bearings a few years ago (something with the rubber composition from....who else? CHINA!) They sent me a new one. Then they started to question my installation methods, I sent them pics of everyone for approval, all were overkill and approved.
Personally I think they have such good service because if they didn't, no one would come back. To stay in business with a sub-par product for the price, you must have good service. I have gotten the dart gold or hammerhead trade in speech...for a nominal feee...blah blah...do they not like the dart either? so switch to trade it out? just really makes me question their intentions. Someone should send them all these repair threads!
WARNING: One of the failures was catastrophic, The "bad-batch" bearing failed within a few hours, locking up and melting (thermal protection helps motor not plastic/rubber) and basically started pumping on the floor (yes 3200gph in a 200 gallon system, you must act fast before it is all on the floor!)
Something doesnt sound right here... IF the bearings went bad, why would that put water on your floor? The wet end would still be sealed regardless of the status of the bearings.
Ive literally sold hundreds of these pumps, and I have never had something like that happen.
What model motor where you having issues with? I do feel the Gold upgrade is worth every penny!

Waves ya that's cool I know you only deal with wholesale customers to bad you couldn't do repairs/warranty work. Madmike thanks ya they really are a step above the rest they told me that owners should disassemble the pump for cleaning/inspection at least every 6 mo and doing so doesn't void warrantys
Ive got a 7 year old dart gold Ive never cleaned, changed bearings or seal. Its probably due Its so old its back when they used clear blue plastic on the volute, not that you can see in after a weeks worth of sludge builds up inside. I run 3 dart golds on my system.

I guess you would call it that, more like Authorized Distributor. I work for Sunlight Supply and we distribute Reeflo pumps. I dont sell direct to end users, I only sell to stores.
-
Glad to hear! I knew they would take care of you
-
Man you had me all excited, I was ready to pay top dollar for a zoa eating conch. If anyone has sundials Ill take em, i have a couple polyps here and there that need to be eatten before they take over the world.
-
I would send it back to Reeflo. Depending on the age it may be under warrantee (they have a 3 year warrantee). If not, they will replace the bearings for a nominal cost. They have excellent customer service, I would use it!
Ed, you can also get new volutes for the front. I did a lot of business with Reeflo and they would usually send me these for free. Give them a call Im sure they will ship one pretty inexpensive (since you dont have a long history with them).

very few SPS are wild anymore, most frags or maricultured. At my time owning Waves I think I only brought in maybe 20 true wild SPS pieces.
-
We have them here in stock in Vancouver, so you may as well buy it locally and get it quick!
-
Why wouldnt you do it with a dry tank? Stacking rock in an empty tank works the best anyway, because if rocks are stable in an empty tank, Im sure they are in a full tank.
Anyone with that size tank should have the resources to at least fill the tank half way immediatly (with tubs, tanks, friends, stores whatever) usually thats enough to cover the rock while you make more RO. Or at least you can setup a pump to "spray" the raised rock.
anyway,,,, you'll never see me doing that in a 300 gallon, would need to be 700+ to make sense IMO. even then Id probably borrow a make up tank from the LFS to make it happen in one day.
-
FYI used acrylic doesnt glue like new acrylic. Acrylic absorbs water while in use so when glueing it it will not repair anything like new acrylic. You are probably fine, but it will not be anything like the bond of fresh acrylic.

I can drill it too if things dont work out with Dave. I have hole saws and have drilled hundreds of holes. no guarantee here either though
-
my guess 150.00ish an eye
I got a deal on this one for 585.00 instead of 1000.00-1200.00
it'll look great as a screen saver vs a piece in your tank (laugh)
There are some folks here that have some sweet chalices!
Good grief $585 for a fingernail size? I want a frag of your money tree, not your coral.

Hi Joel please tell me that you open your shop back up. chuck
Sorry Chuck Noob is right, working at SLS its been a fantastic move for me, benefits (my wife no longer works, now parents of twins) weekends/evenings back, PTO, and I still get to sell the same stuff without getting my hands dirty. I miss the livestock, but I sure dont miss scrubbing algae and cleaning skimmers, even though Jordan did most of it. Is this Chuck from Milwaukee? did you move to Estacada?
