CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Can you find the Duncan shimp (actually an anemone shimp) talk about confused. Quote
downhill_biker Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 nice. glad you got a cool hitch hiker. they are neat. hopefully it doesn't get eaten. thats is what happened to mine. Quote
CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 I have 2 clowns, 2 chromies, 1 mimic yellow tang, 1 small dontknowthename purple fish, 1 lawmower blenny. Do you think something here could eat him? Who do I need to look out for? Quote
downhill_biker Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 what size tank is it? do you have any pics of the purple thing? if it is a pseudochromis it most definitely could eat the shrimp. look up purple pseuodchromis and see if that is what it is. Quote
CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 it is a 36g tank, 30g display and 6 built on back for fug. dimensions are 24" wide x 20" front to back x 18" deep Quote
CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 no I don't have pic of purple dude. He is hard to get pic of, he hides alot. Small fish. Quote
downhill_biker Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 look up a pic on google and see if that is what he is... now? a tang in a 30 gallon? how big is the tang? Quote
CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 I knew I was going to hear something about that.....the tang is about a half dollar or so. Quote
CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 looked up image and yes he looks alot like that. but I think snowpunk said he was a dottyback. They both look similar, but he has the aqua ring around his eyes like the pseudochromis. Are they agressive? Should I get rid of him? Quote
dsoz Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 They can turn into butt-heads as they get established in a tank. Very territorial and aggressive to newbies. dsoz Quote
downhill_biker Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 agreed. they are gorgeous, but not what i would consider a reef safe fish. i really want an arabian pseudochromis, but they are too mean. i say, just see how it goes, and make your own judgements based on how he acts. Quote
CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 fair enough....sounds like sound advice. Quote
Lowman Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 that fish is going to make a snack out of that shrimp sooner or later Quote
CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 what about the cleaner? Are my other fish safe from him? Quote
downhill_biker Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 your cleaner shrimp will eventually be lunch too. shrimp are natural food for pseudochromis in the wild. so if i were you i would skip the $25 lunch of the cleaner shrimp and just get him out now. take him to the LFS. Quote
CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 dang....my wife loves his color. Is there another fish with the same kind of color? Quote
CA2OR Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 he has to be much bigger to eat the shrimp doesn't he? His mouth is quite small right now. Quote
fishmanmike01 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 You really should do as much research as you can on anything you put in your tank so you can make an informed decision and know the risks and/or benifits. Quote
downhill_biker Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 if you are looking for another pretty purple fish, a royal gramma may be a good choice. they are purple and yellow, and much more reef safe. your LFS probably has one that you could trade your pseudochromis in on. Quote
CA2OR Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 Thank you. For those who couldnt find the shrimp....this is what he looks like. sort of anyway....the pic sux. Quote
dsoz Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 if you are looking for another pretty purple fish' date=' a royal gramma may be a good choice. they are purple and yellow, and much more reef safe. your LFS probably has one that you could trade your pseudochromis in on.[/quote'] I hear that royal grammas are just as bad, if not worse than pseudochromis. Do some research on the fish before you make more decisions. dsoz Quote
CA2OR Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Here is the purple fish I was talking about. Hard one to catch pic of. Cant wait to try and catch him. Quote
