Barleychown
Do you feed frozen only, or mix some flake in as well? Do you rotate through several foods?
impur
I rotate. I try not to feed flake as it seems to be a source of phosphates. I alternate using frozen bloodworms, frozen enriched brine, frozen cyclopeeze, and frozen mysis.
Barleychown
Ah! There is phosphates in flake! I was thinking I was crazy or something....I've been so busy lately that I was feeding more flake than before just becuase it was easy, and my tank is now suffering because of it. impur
Same here, was feeding strictly flake for at least a few weeks. Notice a lot more diatoms and some hair algae. Quite the flake and now its getting better.
Barleychown
I seem to be having more trouble with cyno since I started feeding more flake.(scary)
nu2reef-n
I rotate between frozen mysis, brine, and krill, sometimes I will mix it all together. I also feed fresh shrimp and squid. Sometimes they get pellets. I target feed my clams with DT's phytoplankton. I try to vary their diet somewhat as I would not want to eat the same food every day. Lowman
I make my own food. Several different kinds of fish and shell fish, cyclopeeze, mysis, selcon. Then alternate with a little flake. I feed corals and inverts twice a week with dt's
Nyles
Frozen Emerald Entree for all fish and an extra kick of mysis and other stuff mixed on different days, spot feed "smashed" frozen cyclopeeze and dried reef chili on opposite days. After my stockes are gone I m planning on making my own from local seafood market and spit feed with the cyclopeeze and reef chili.
H20cooled
I also make my own food. I just go to the grocery store and get a small amount of a bunch of different raw SW items (oyster, fish, shrimp, etc...) add some garlic juice, cyclopeeze, oyster eggs, mysis, and nori. Then a blend it into small chunks in the food processor and freeze it in a ziplock. It works great and the fish and corals love it.
Lowman
Oh yeah, I also add nori. Just be sure to wash all the fish in ro/di water before you process them. some are sprayed with a food preservative that raises phosphates in your tank.
