aqua-ed
As I mentioned before, I had a mishap with algae taking over my take whilst I was away. Everything is cool now and its looking great. One minor problem, though, is that all of my spare shells (for hermits) are still green. I've taken them out and scrubbed them down, but they are pretty well stained. Any ideas on getting it off? It's nothing critical, it's just ugly. Nice, pretty shells, make for a pretty tank, ya know?
dstoneburg
I would just bleach it for a few hours, then soak it a few times, dry it and it should be good! Same practice you would take as you were bleaching corals/rock/sand.
dsoz
+1 for the bleach. Use about a 5-10% solution, and not very long (10-15 minutes) to start with. If it does not come clean with the short time, then increase it. Just be sure it is dry before putting back in the tank so there is no residual bleach. dsoz
Nyles
Agree, other than I would 100% bleach... because I like quick results. Rinse thoroughly....
CCR
Another way to kill the algae is vinegar. If bleaching shells. Be sure to turn the shells to get the bleach or what ever to get it out of the middle, Spiral. Be sure to dilute it or it will eat the shells.
