crab seizures

Recommended Posts

This morning when I got up and came downstairs, I discovered my large male emerald half-hidden behind a jut of rock having some kind of seizure.

I was concerned he was in the throws of death, so after watching for a few minutes, I tried to gently poke at him with the algae scraper, to see if he'd respond. 'Bugger pinched at the scraper with his little claw!

Then he moved a little and I realized he had a female underneath him (whistle)

OOPS. I guess he was in the throws of something. WAS. DOH! Poor Hercules.

Don't you know better than to disturb a couple in the middle of doing that.

Watch the female. You will probably see eggs growing in the little flap on her underside. Then one night she will release the eggs into the water and your fish will have a nice little midnight snack.

Make sure you get pictures next time you disturb them. Then we can make jokes about crustacian matings... pornography... and crabs... and ... forget it.

dsoz :)

*chicka chicka bown bown*

I almost never see them during the day. I've put several females in there with my male, but I never see them together. I'm sure, as with my mouthbrooding cardinals and egg-carrying skunk shrimp, I'll never see what happens to the fry... :( I hate that
