Jeramy
If you use baking soda and soda ash togather it should not effect your ph I just dont know what ratios you would have to mix them to keep the ph stable =)

kriz2fer
Im using bulk reef supply and it's very easy. They have a reef calculator that makes things simple as pie. You just type in your tank size/water volume and you off, very cheap and easy, you can't go wrong.
BrianB
3 cups of soda ash per gallon seems like alot. I dose every 3rd day about 2.3 oz of already pre mixed BRS alk per 50 gallons of water to keep my alk at 11.2. It doesn't affect my ph much. Its when you raise your alk more than 1.5dkh that you will see a jump in ph. Its worked for me so far.

Jeramy
Baked baking soda is soda ash somthing about releasing a hydrogen molocule or somthing I am sure one of the more scientificaly inclined members could give the whole run down on that one =)

Zwickm
Most dKH buffers are about the same. I use Kent Marine Super dKH powder. I add it straight into my auto top of water. 3 tsp per 2.5gal of ro/DI water in my 39 gal tank. Keeps dKH at around 9.
