J & Jr
I'm hoping someone knows what these are and that they are not some kind of pest. for a size they are about ¼” x ¾” I just thought they were part of the live rock till I was doing some rearranging and noticed them snap shut when I touched the rock.and there are two of them so I am concerned they might multiply if the are a pest. thanks

illcssd
They look to be some sort of oyster or mussel. They are good and we get in a bunch of them on the bottom of our zoo rocks. Not sure on specific name but they are not harmful to anything that i have seen or heard of.

illcssd
If you are ever at our shop, and are looking at the big frag/zoo tank. Look in the back right corner, there are close to a hundred living there.

dsoz
Austin- If there are near 100 of them, do they breed in the tank? Or did that many just come in on a rock?
illcssd
They all came on zooanthid colonies we got in. They haven't really multiplied afaik.
cyenna
Austin- If there are near 100 of them' date=' do they breed in the tank? Or did that many just come in on a rock?[/quote'] mine came on a rock. as far as I know they are regular ol' filter feeding clams. They like the dark and to be "squeezed" into a rock nook. Give it some flow and you have a happy clam. Not terribly exciting to watch but definitely adds to diversity in your tank!
J & Jr
Its nice to get some good news on a hitchhiker for a change, like you said cyenna not exciting but at least not harmful. thanks for helping guy's
Lowman
They may be those boring clams that bore holes in rock. Not sure though
