wegotjs
What's the feeling on running a 30 gallon frag tank with a 20 gallon sump with no skimmer. No fish or Inverts, semi- weekly 10% water changes. Any ideas how it would work.
cyenna
I'm no expert, i've never even owned a skimmer, but, from stuff that I've read, I would think that if all you "feed" is light then, with a relatively large system of 50 gallons, any organic material produced can be negligible with your dedicated water changes. Just my two cents.
reef165
id say you may want to concider one, just because one the skimmer will help pull out the slime that the corals produce and expecialy when handeling them, second you may want to concider at least a couple cromisis do to the fact that corals do feed on fish waste to an extent, third, you will halfto feed the corals, light alone wont be enouph, 4th will help remove oils that you add from your hands, and im sure im missing a couple good reasons but that should be enouph to get you thinking abought adding one. CCR
I would do a skimmer for all the above reasons. It you don't, at least carbon

CCR
It's all about the food chain. I don't know of any reefs that are fishless. Part of there food is fish waiste.
