wegotjs
I use a eggcrate frag rack on one side of my tank. I have seen a couple lfs also build rock on elevated eggcrate. I would do that but wouldn't want to much weight as it does have a weight limit.
Mohaynow
I've seen people use small plastic crates, just cut the material out of the sides leaving the rigid corners, top and bottom in tact still leaves plenty of room for flow, and can be concealed easily enough. Something like these would work, and you can get em in all sizes. They are pretty strong too. Egg crage would also work fine, but as wegotjs mentioned it does have a weight limit. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_SPM698281101P?sid=IDx20070921x00003a&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=SPM698281101
NoobtoSalt
If you scroll down you can see what Doug has done for his 750 gallon tank. It's really a great idea and gives it a lot more height. http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/showthread.php?28249-750-Gallon-Reef-1200-Gallon-System-Join-the-Craziness!/page4
