Reef tanks and metal

This is kind of a dumb question, but one I'm going to ask anyway.

I've got a 90 gallon glass tank. I have a mag float thingy that I always clean my glass with, but I've still gotten a build up of hard, green algaes, it may be corraline but it's green. It's getting hard to look through the sides of the tank. I know a razor blade will scrape it right off - but isn't it bad for metal to be in the tank?? Or is it ok if it's just a couple minutes?

Or, is there another way to get the glass super clean?

Its fine to use a razor blade to clean the glass. Just putting a piece of metal in the tank isn't the problem. The problem is that salt water corrodes the metal causing rust. The rust is what is bad for our tanks in large quantities. So really, if you put a razor blade in the tank and left it for several months, you would probably still be ok. Would I suggest you do this? Of course not.

Also consider the granular ferric oxide (GFO) we use in our tanks to help with PO4 and NO3 is essentially rust.
