impur
My clowns act just like that except they do it in a frogspawn. I think they have just decided to host that spot, and as stated above it looks like the beginnings of spawning. I am assuming they haven't ever laid eggs for you in the past? It takes them a few tries before they get it right (laugh)

Emerald525
They would probably like an anemone but it is not necessary. It just makes them feel safer. They will often host a frogspawn, hammers, torches too. I have a pair of clowns and I feel bad for the female. I had to take out the anemone because it was stinging the corals and now she tries to host the sand, the zoas, etc.
