Mitchell
Does anyone use a rubbermaid container as a sump? I have an acrylic sump, but I'd like something bigger. I've heard some people say that rubbermaid containers leach phosphates and I've heard others say they are totally safe, so I'm not sure what to believe. Burningbaal
I'll tag along here...planning to use a rubbermaid (or maybe it's a different brand) as a cryptic fuge in my 90g upgrade. it'll be a branch off my return pump, it's about 30gallons, probably run about 150gph turnover, plus I might throw another powerhead in there. but if this thread shows they're bad with phosphates, maybe I shouldn't. also, mine is currently cooking rock right now (about 40 lbs in there for the past 3 months), maybe it'd be done leaching by now? MVPaquatics
I have a few in use no problems. I have heard that some plastics (brute line does), etc, can have something in them that kills coral larvae but have no effect on corals themselves. There are numerous articles. Just google "rubbermaid kills coral sperm" haha no joke.
