titus'reef Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Has anyone had any flame hawkfish that got along with the invertebrates in the tank? I really like his personality and I am thinking to add one, BUT I also have fire shrimp that I can't catch and other hermit crabs and snails. Will he bother any of it? I did a research and surprisingly I find that 50% of people have kept them with no problem in a tank with inverts. What is your opinion? Is it wort to try?
rgrcrain Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 My last one didnt mess with anything but he wasn't really big either.
Nate213 Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I just added a small cleaner and fire shrimp to our tank. We had a small flame hawk in there already. He goes to the cleaner and tries to get cleaned and hasn't shown aggression toward either one. I have heard that it is better to add the hawk after the shrimp.
titus'reef Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 But what about for the hermit crabs and snail? Does he bother them at all?
titus'reef Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 once i add it to the system i wont' be able to take him out unless he dyes. lol
titus'reef Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Well in that case i will have to risk the shrimp.
pnkrcklives Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Keep us posted... I am thinking of getting one myself.
titus'reef Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 Sure I will.... He was curios on the fire shrimp but left them alone so far. They are cool fish. I got it for almost half a price and you're not going to guess where from. Locally off course.
Mitchell Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I have a tiny flame hawk, about the size of a dime. He killed my shrimp after a couple weeks, but he leaves my snails and hermits alone. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
titus'reef Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 i have to wait and see but there is no way i could catch him. oops
titus'reef Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 It has been 10 days since I got the flame hawkfish and the shrimp are still around.(fingers)
cellowithgills Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Aaron got a skunk cleaner in today and we put it with the other one who happens to be in the same tank as a hawk, the new shrimp was gone in 15 mins (sad)DOH!.
titus'reef Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 I had my shrimp in there for a long time and they are large size. Your hawk had a real feast. A good sign he is healthy. I am wondering what's going to happen if I add an emerald crab in there? Will the hawk be happy? I will probably add one over night when the hawk is sleeping maybe.
