cellowithgills
I'm trying to work out a stand to hold my 55g display and my new baffled 33L. If anybody has some good ideas sketch 'em out and post them. Here's what I've got so far with Sketch Up so far. They are not finished; I'm suffering from a severe lack of patience with Sketch Up. The stand is 42"H x 60"L x 30"W, and it's connected to the wall(that's what those boards behind it are). The bottom shelf is 24" off the ground. I'm really interested in any designs that could save wood without bargaining strength.
racefan
I'm wondering about the shelf. Are you planning on putting your sump there? I put mine on the floor, there's more room for getting stuff in & out of the stand if it's on the floor.
cellowithgills
The sump is going through the wall behind this stand.
jgf86123
Cello, if you want some advice, I'd suggest upgrading from a 55 to at least a 75g, that tank, with those dims, will more than support it
wanareef
Agree with jgf86123 about a bigger tank and about putting it on the floor. If you got rid of that horizontal piece you would have more room for storing "reef related" stuff under there
tigerv503
I agree with wannareef about getting rid of the middle piece. Having it there would make it harder to access the bottom and it's obsolete no need for it. Vin "Keep On Reefing"
OwenReefin
Such a cool idea btw.
jgf86123
I think his plan for that middle piece is to make a spot for his 33L than have his sump sit on the floor, I think....That'd make it a display fuge, I think, but then again, I'm really really bad at reading minds LOL
tigerv503
You may also consider going bigger, this hobby is very addicting it will only get worse "for the better off course." Vin "Keep On Reefing"

The sump is going to have a macro algae, and the 33L is going to have one or two shrimp/goby pairs, sexy shrimp and mini maxi's, and anything else I find that's interesting. I think building the stand big enough to hold a 75 is about as close to a 75 as I can get for now. Keep in mind that I live at home with my parents and this is "my mother's tank." (Really it's both of ours because she put all the money into it at the beginning, but them I started putting money into it as well, and I've upgraded all of the equipment) Plus my mother really likes the blue background on this acrylic. I think a 75 will have to wait until I get a place of my own or until I find one for dirt cheap (no body make me offers, please, it would be too tempting). jgf86123
Cello, you can generally find 75's for around 100 bucks if you shop around, give a shout-out to Garrett an see if he can't help you find something, you'll be a LOT happier with it than you will that 55 lol
cellowithgills
See, to me, that's around $100 that I could spend on getting the rest of this set up. It's one of those things that, to me, it would be nice, but not necessary. So, now that the idea has been implanted in my head, it my happen sometime after this system gets up and running.
