andy
The submersible Gen-X pumps from PCI. Terrible, terrible quality.
newfisher
Canister filters used in the saltwater hobby for filtration. However, they make great carbon reactors.

Barelycuda
The submersible Gen-X pumps from PCI. Terrible' date=' terrible quality.[/quote'] I have 2 gen-x 6000 pumps that have been running in the clownhouse for over 3 years and they are still doing fine. I probably have only cleaned them a couple times....

Michael7979
I had a GenX 4100 on my old 100g tank never had a problem in 3-4 years. Then sold the tank and left the pump to dry out and it was never right again. So maybe if they are maintained well they have a better lifespan. But then Dave says he never does maintance, so....... andy
My problem with them is the quality of construction. They're built using cheap plastic that breaks far too easy. I've had a couple of 2100s and the tabs holding on the volute broke almost immediately on both. As comparison, I've had pumps (Eheim, Tunze, Mag & Sedra to a lesser degree) that are near bulletproof. Gen-X pumps are cheap, and you get what you pay for -- for a few extra bucks (the cost of a frag), you can buy a pump that'll last a lifetime (Eheim). IMO. YMMV. reef165
Everything has the potential to fail or last a lifetime, I've had Gen-x pumps last 5 years, and have a danner last only 3 monthes, and vise versa. I thought the thread was about things that just never worked properly and were doomed from the getgo, good ideas that dont work, like the Zoomed sweeping powerhead. titus'reef
All of the above suck big time, including the two little fishes external pumps. They are VERY, VERY, VERY LOUD. It feels like you are at the train station.
