SALTY
Can a 75 gallon glass tank be drilled in the back for a closed loop
MarkBirkett
drilled tank You didn't say if the tank is glass or acrylic. The only place a tank can not be drilled is on the bottom because it is tempered and would shatter. Good luck.

dsoz
Dave Durr (barleycuda) has some glass hole saws, or at least he did. Use a variable speed drill and a lot of water to lubricate/cool the cut. DON'T PUSH, let the weight of the drill do the work. I drilled a couple of holes in the back of my AGA 75g. Most tanks have a tempered bottom, but not all. Look for a sticker on the bottom warning you to not drill. It should tell you what pieces are tempered. I am pretty sure that the bottom of my tank is tempered, but the sides are not. dsoz

aquariansaltwater
It really depends on the manufacturer of the glass tank. I have seen several glass tanks recently with ALL panels tempered. It's not common, but it allows the manufacturer to use less expensive thinner panels. On the bottom panel of your tank (if you bought it new and didn't peel it off...), the manufacurer is required to indicate the panel or panels of glass that are tempered and therefore undrillable. Check out the bottom of your tank. Depending on the size of your bulkhead needs and where you are located I can possibly help. I have drilled several glass tanks. I just got done doing a 30 gallon extra tall tank for my Octopus. It came out really nice. We started with a natural pine stand and an Eclipse 30 gallon tank (thicker glass than most 30s) and it came out really striking. We painted the stand a sort of wine red with black trim and silver hinges with a silver handle. The tank has black trim. I'll post some pics sometime when I finish the top of it. I'm still fabricating the top to keep the little octopus from being able to open it up. Good luck with you closed loop setup. Matt
snowpunk
I highly doubt it is tempered on a 75g. PM me if you want and we can work something out for drilling those holes for ya. I've done a few tanks for people on the forum now. Any idea the size hole/s you want in it?
