Beckie
I have never seen it closed and eating. Is this strange? Is it a mushroom or ???
Rick
Not an expert but I would guess that it is indeed a mushroom. Mushrooms are actually a type of anemone.
Isaac
It is a "fuzzy mushroom".

They spread pretty fast in the right conditions FYIDOH!

Ryan
When I had those same fuzzy mushrooms, they would do that same thing every once and a while...

Tell me more about the cutting process... You can cut it like a pizza if you wand. Just have a container of rubble for it to re-attach and not get blown away. Or go to www.GARF.org and it will show you how to frag lost of different corals
Rick
I just trim pieces off bigger ones and let them float around until they find a spot to root down. If you want to keep track of the pieces you can use a small plastic container and punch holes in it with gravel at the bottom. Put the container somewhere in a low flow area of the tank and just drop the pieces in it.
undrtkr_00
I have some that are pretty much identical to your pic. I used to drop food on them just to watch them eat like that. Mine will get to about 8" in diameter before they split. They will take over your tank if you don't watch out!
