sharoleb
I just got a Duncan last night. (clap) No pics yet since it was not open last night and quite frankly I suck at taking tank pictures (working on that). I'm trying to figure out how to place it. I know where, med-high light, med flow. I've saved the perfect spot in my tank as I've been waiting for a while to get this. My question is: Can I place it in the sand? I fully intend to place it on the sand bed, but is in the sand ok? It is not on a plug, and am not sure if I can glue successfully as the angle it was fragged is a pretty big slant. That and I don't currently have any small live rock/rubble to glue it on to. The stem is very short, about a 1/2 inch or so. Any thoughts? I haven't written up my signature yet, but I have a 36 gallon bowfront w/ 10K flourecent lighting.
snowpunk
just try to keep the flesh out of the sand and it'll be fine.

CA2OR
I agree with keeping the flesh out of the sand. I had mine in the sand for upwards of a year before I finally moved it onto my rocks.
newfisher
Cut a small piece of pvc pipe and stand it vertically in the sand place the duncan in the open end. It will grow out and then you should be fine.
sharoleb
Thank you, good idea. I think that will solve my problem perfectly. No adverse affects from the PVC then?

Most fish stores will use it a lot to display frags of duncans, hammers, and frogspawns...
CA2OR
of course it doesn't look very natural. But if you cut it low enough you can bury the top of the PVC in the sand.

grassi
Get some round flat plugs and glue on it. You will need the plugs soon for other purposes :-) Then you can bury it in the sandbed. Provide a HUGE quantity of food and it will grow like crazy ;-)

(whistle) I must admit I wouldn't mind if it took over the 72....not at all. They already take a decent amount of real estate....considering this pic is a few weeks old but take a look...they are the big beige blob just right of the center of the tank They absolutely dwarf my anemone and the clowns wont even bother going to the anemone anymore. I spoke w/ the LFS on Sunday, reputable place and a PNWMAS sponsor. He said it needs HIGH light, so I ended up gluing it to a piece of LR at the top of my tank. It still hasn't opened more than just a peek yet though. (scary) It was fragged on Thursday when I bought it, so I'm thinking it will need a week just to recover from the fragging. (?) Maybe when I get home tonight it will be happier. He also told me I should be doing a KH test. DOH! I haven't heard of this. Is this a test you do regularly? CA2OR - what a beautiful piece!!! newfisher: What a kind and selfless offer, but I think I will plough my way through this and hope for the best.
