tidalsculpin
Starting to think of setting up a 40 gallon reef. Suggestions on your favorite skimmer? I have read good things about the aqua c remora. Is a nano remora enough for a 40 breeder? Are there other slim and effective skimmers people might suggest? Lowman
i would go with the aqua c personally. I have a cpr bak pak but I think the aqua c kicks it's [language filter]
tidalsculpin
How about the powerhead? Is the rio a decnt powerhead or should I upgrade to a better one?
DChemist
My cpr bak pak work fines on my 40 gallon sumpless. Its hard for me to recommend something else because its the only skimmer I've used. The Aqua C definitely has a better reputation.

nu2reef-n
I used a Aqua-C remora pro on a 116 gal tank for 3 or 4 months never had a problem. I think they are one of the best H.O.T. skimmers for the money. IMO
tidalsculpin
Dchemist or anyone else, is the bak pak easy to calibrate? How about the remora c for those who have used em?
nu2reef-n
The remoras are plug and play.
R-3
Theres Aqua C Remoras, Deltec MCE500&600's, Octopus makes one too, CPR, and even the Tunze are in tank skimmers. I think the Aqua C is more widely used. As with any skimmer there will be people who love em and hate em. I think the Aqua C would be a good choice. Lowman
The bak pak is easy to calibrate, just plug and play really,
DChemist
There are two adjustments you can make on the bak pak... You adjust the collection cup up or down in the water column and/or you adjust the amount of air going into the venturi. I clean the collection cup almost daily (when I add top-off water) and the powerhead intake every 3-4 weeks.
Randy-S
I have heard good and bad about the aqua-c. I had one on my 20l frag tank and was not very happy with it. I sold it and replaced it. I have heard nothing but good reviews about the tunze doc skimmers. I am getting a 9010 for my 40 gal i am setting up. here a link or two about them. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=828469 http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=893380 http://www.tunze.com/149.html?&L=1&C=US&user_tunzeprod_pi1[predid]=-infoxober007

Randy-S
Darren how do you like your tek light over your 40. i am doing the same and was going back and fourth between the 4 or 6 lamp version. If you were to do it again would you kkep the 4 lamp or get the 6?
DChemist
I'm happy with the four lamp... Its good for my "garden", I've got mushrooms on the bottom and acros near the top, both are doing fine. Perhaps if I was doing an acropora dominated system I'd get the 6 lamp.
