  1. The big day is here....we can finally replace the bubble max skimmer on my 72g bow front! We've been comparing these 2 Reef octopus classic 200int Coralife protien super skimmer 220 gal Any experience with either or good reason to choose one over the other? Any other good suggestions....were trying to keep costs at $250 or so Thanks for any help or suggestions
  2. Ive got 2 mini maxi carpet nems. ....ill try snails first. But my hubby did mention setting my 10g nano back up. Maybe the nems can vacation in the nano. Can I make a gal of peroxide sw and dip the affect rocks and corals into it to kill algae with out exposing my nems?
  3. Upgraded last July from a 55 hex to a 72 bowfront. Added 503on fresh sand and about the same in dry rock. Been battling algae since. Just moved at the beginning of the month. Toothbrushes every rock as part of the move process. Now starting see the re-invasion of the algae
  4. Really slimy and whispy...starts as a film and develops stringers
  5. Been battling it for a while. Ive got it to slow its growth dramatically with a small fuge and rowa phos....but im thinking my sand n dry rock is still leaching more phosphate than Im removing
  6. Not as noisey today, but im going to shop around for a new pump just to be safe....we live too far from town to not be prepared! Any suggestions for a return pump for my system? I have two return nozzles in the tank with a occelator?? of some sorts (it alternates flow between the two return nozzles every 15 sec or so).
  7. Just got thru moving and setting my tank up in the new house. After a devastating series of losses in the temp tank (failed battery pump overnight, poor critters), now my return pump is being oddly loud. Never was super quiet to begin with, clearly moving lots of water. But its making this wierd vibrating buzzing. Its loud, and u can feel vibration in the floor in front of the tank. Im a little worried its a sign my pump is going out. ...any ideas? 72g tank, 20ish g sump, ecoplus 1065 pump *not sure how this post ended up here, was trying to post im gen discussion. Thank you for moving it where it belongs*
  8. Heres a link to the one I went with http://www.purewaterclub.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=95&products_id=494 Theres several options for "portable" units other than the one i picked
  9. I got a attach to sink rodi unit; 100gpd, 5 filters with replacements from purewaterclub.com for $124 shipped. Been using 6 months now and still 0 tds on my first set of filters
  10. Check ocean in a box, I think Jason had mini max is in earlier this week
  11. My Halloween hermit has been a model citizen, good cleaner
  12. Isn't ph an issue with Malawi cichlids as well? I know theres some plants that will adjust to the higher ph; but mosses tend to melt
  13. I haven't done a fw fuge; but as far nitrate sponges: Frogbit or duck weed as a floater Niajas or guppy grass Wisteria I run my planted fw tanks with "daylight" cfl (13w, 3 on a 20g long), and theyd work for top and side light on a fuge
  14. I get mine (for shipping fw shrimp) off eBay. Theyre about $1.50 for 40g, $2 for 72hr
  15. Great driftwood! What are you planning to stock?
  16. Keep an eye on them? And do u propose catching or scolding one that crosses those bad neighbor boundaries? When mine died I was grateful it happened before I had to tear my rockwork aparr to evict him
  17. Tiny job still (4 bubbles in a clump)...but I had it spread horrible in my nano. Dint want to deal with that nightmare again!
  18. Im kinda emerald hesitant. I had one a year ago....but I caught it hunting my sexy shrimp on multiple occasions and it loved to thrown my frags around (even glued). I wasnt upset when he died.
  19. Thats great thinking;-) ill be trying that tomw!
  20. I had some bubble algae hitch hike in with a few coral frags. Ive gotten all the plugs scrubbed clean (in a seperate container of tank water)....but theres some on my rock work. Any suggestions for getting rid of it? Its on a base rock, so removing it for scrubbing is going to be a nightmare. Im hesitant to just scape it in the tank and possibly pop the lil bugger.
  21. Water for rinsing has been comming strait from the display, fresh scoop per rock to limit spores in their rinsing water. Water used for rinsing is going down the drain. Finishing algae scrub with a wc. Waters mixed and heating up the last lil bit Sooo glad all the new guys were still in the sand when the bubbles started to appear!
  22. I noticed some bubble algae on my maxima clams shell. Usually when I see bubble algae on a new addition I remove the rock or plug and scrap it clean in a seperate container of tank water; limiting any spores from a popped bubble getting into my display. Will my clam tolerate this same treatment? Any other suggestions? Ive done good keeping bubble algae out if my display so far abd I need to get rid of this before it can spread
  23. Great nano! Makes me want to start my 12g again. Do u have anything for the sexy shrimp to host? Mine live their mini maxi and my lps
