shaywood
Decided to top-off the media in my calcium reactor today. When I refilled everything and fired it up, I noticed the PH in the reactor was at 9.39. This seems odd since I'm running my tank water through it at 8.0. I recalibrated the probe and checked it with another tester - with the same result. Seems odd. Is this normal? Does the media in the reactor have a high PH? Jorge
Its normal. You might get an alk spike as well. I always fill my ca reactor in quarters to avoid too high of an alk spike. Depending on how much media you added and your tank volume it might not be problem. What you can do is let the media become saturated with co2. I shut off the drip line and allow co2 to recitculate within the reactor for 24hrs. If you have a ph probe set up in the reactor it will shut off co2 when it reaches the desired ph. You can then restart the drip rate.
shaywood
I'll give that a try. I ran the reactor overnight, but only got it down to 7.55. I'm wondering if maybe the old media is compacted and it's impacting circulation. I took it all out this morning and rinsed in RODI. I'll try again
