The heat has slowed down production immensely for my white worms. I keep mine room temperature with a backup in a cooler set to 65F

Grindals do grow faster than white worms in general. They're also better adapted to the heat.

You could get a cheap plastic cooler and put them in with frozen water bottles as needed.

I've got a few coolers from recent livestock orders. I can put them with some freezer blocks to cool them down a bit.

Surprised no one has scooped this up. Unlimited live food with minimal input. Sounds like an awesome deal.

I'm trying to increase population of the ones I got from you. I think my basement isn't quite as cold as they like.

So cool! I have not seen the Caribbean blue leg shrimp before. If I did not already have 2 regular pistols in my 40 I would take him.

Thanks for the ID. If no one on here wants it, I’ll see if cuttle can rehome it.

  4. I got an interesting looking pistol shrimp with my KP live rock order. It’s living in my sump now. I got a second one that’s smaller and mainly white, maybe less than an inch. The larger pistol shrimp is probably 1.5” long, maybe longer. It’s got purple legs and orange body. Here’s the best picture I could get. Looking for a good home and if I can get an LPS/SPS frag out of it that’d be cool. $5 OBO

    SOLD

  5. I saw the same observations when researching online. I’ll give the 2-4 hour acclimation a try and see how it goes. I’ll call around Portland to see who has some nice sailfins for sale.

  6. I’m planning on putting a few in my 110 that I’m in the process of setting up. I’m getting live rock this week so likely next week I’ll get some mollies.

What acclimation method did you use?

My tap water has 22-25 tds so I just use caralytic carbon and mixed bed DI resin to bring down to 0 tds with no waste water.

This is how my new water flow from the filter, it is about 3-5gpm.

My incoming water in SE averages around 28 tds. I use a similar system to Rudy. It’s been great and I do like the zero water waste. I do notice the Anion burns through a lot more. I have a chlorine tester but haven’t gotten around to using it.

For those using RO around here have you adjusted your rejection ratio if you have low incoming TDS?

  8. Looking to sell. I bought used from Cuttle but ended up going with a Reef Octopus skimmer and pumps so I could link to Apex. Prices are for pick up at the coral show between 11 and 12. Cash or Venmo.

$60 for Simplicity 1600 DC Pump (comes with extra controller)

    $175 for RS600

  9. I'm wondering if anyone in the club/area has bought ocean live rock from one of the Florida area suppliers? I'm most interested in KP Aquatics since they seem to be the less dense rock and ship in water. I wanted to ask the local opinion since we're about as far away as you can get in the states from them.

  10. Here's my plan based on the previous post and info I've received.

I'll use a gate valve to control flow through the system. 6 stages: sediment, catalytic carbon, sediment, cation DI, anion DI, mixed bed DI. All refillable containers except the sediment. I'm going with 2.5 x 10 due to my somewhat low water volume requirements.

The kit BRS sells comes with the TDS meter so that will have readings at: the inlet to DI, before the mixed bed DI, and output of the DI.
