is it weird that I am wishing for a week long power outage all of a sudden?

Many will be envious of the generator, but I think I am more envious or the blue beauty next to it

  2. As a person that lost power last Friday and still does not have it I find having a generator very important.  I use a portable generator like many others do.  Mine only runs on gas, but a duel fuel is a good option, especially if you have natural gas.  From my research most generators burn through propane pretty quick and I find it more convenient to fill up gas cans than propane tanks.  For the electrical side I have a cost effective but still safe alternative to a full transfer switch.  At my house we have an exterior mounted outlet for the generator.  In the panel there is a breaker to back feed the panel with a lock out for the incoming utility power.  It’s very simple and cost effective.  I just turn off the main breaker which allows me to turn on the generator breaker.  Then I can chose which circuits in that panel to power up.

  3. After a hectic couple weeks I got a chance today to actually sit back and enjoy looking at my fairly new tank.  I wanted to give a big thanks to Jeff and everyone at CNC.  They have been very helpful getting this tank set up and stocked.  Nearly everything (with the exception of a few frags from members) has come from CNC.  Several of which came from a very cool and beautiful mystery box recently.  They really can pick some great stuff.  I added a quick video of how the tank looks now, pardon my bad iPhone camera work.  It’s a bit fast, but the longer video was too large a file.

  4. I just added some livestock this weekend and haven't updated in a couple months so I thought I would share a few picks of the tank with some life in it.  Big thanks to Jeff at Cuttlefish for most of the great livestock.  Sorry for the iPhone photos.

  5. Your color coordination makes me jealous lol!

just a heads up, the DOS Reservoir is problematic with whatever you put into it shorting the circuit board and causing the optical switch not to register. Mine is out already and it’s only 6 months old. Debating sending it in for “repair”. You could probably open it up (screw on under side of top) and use some silicone to seal it better. Or a guy on eBay sells a wire only harness with no circuit board for pretty reasonable. Just something to look into.

That’s good to know. I may start with the silicone idea. What a shame such a high priced item has such a major problem. As we all know apex products aren’t exactly inexpensive.

  6. Well, it’s been a heck of a week. Have a few minutes and thought I would do a small update on the progress. Almost two weeks ago Brad from cuttlefish cape down and brought some rock. He did a great job on the rocks scape. He did in a couple hours what would have taken me all day. I am still waiting on lights, skimmer and the mp40’s but the aquarium is full and started to cycle. I was able to get some of the apex gear up and running, but that will take some time. Here are a few pics.

  7. One thing I just noticed is your use of brass faucets on your mixing station.  I highly recommend replacing those with PVC so there's no chance of metal getting into your water.

    Good point, easy enough fix.

    Thanks
