Apparently Killion my eel has not heard of the saying “Dont bite the hand that feeds you”. Tonight he mistakenly thought my finger might have been a piece of shrimp. Totally my fault, as I focused on trying to get a piece of shrimp under a leg of the starfish (with tongs), while fending off the two tangs that kept stealing it with
every previous attempt. Killion came up behind me and tested out a finger. Quickly let go when he figured out it wasn’t shrimp. Blood, sliced it but no chunks gone. Now I know what it feels like getting a love bite. [emoji14]

  2. Here is the 1-month update + tank build finish pictures since I just realized I never posted fully finished pictures of the stand/hood.

First order of business is the hood, lights were attached pretty simply, LED bar was attached using ROMEX staples, 1/2 pvc, and really long zip ties. PVC is used behind the light to allow airflow when fans turn on, heat dissipation is not a problem after testing for a few hours at 100%.

Next here are some photos of the tank fully completed:

Although the tank is operational it is not done here is my to-do list going forward.
    #1: Install dosing reservoirs/dosing pump.
    #2: Install carbon reactor.
#3: Install simple overflow weir in the refugium.
#4: Install 3/8 Line going from refugium to frag/nursery tank, that will allow a small amount of flow moving through the area. Then install the light.
#5: Build some lids for the sump and the tank at the top to cut down on evaporation.

Very nice setup! It’s really beautiful, thanks for sharing. I’ve put some pieces of acrylic over the top of my sump to cut down on evaporation. Mine is an open stand and it was losing water like crazy! At the time I wasn’t sure if it was okay to do but was willing to try since I was topping off every couple days.

  4. Pretty good idea for keeping an “eye” on your tank and easy to implement. Will have to keep that in mind.

I would like to have one so that I can record video. Then when a new fish goes missing I know who ate him! [emoji23]

  5. I am so jealous, what a perfect fish couple! I should have thought more carefully before dropping all that cash in brand new wood floors:( now she wont let me get bigger than a 5 gal tank!

We are lucky that we both love saltwater so much but may go broke buying stuff! We are taking dive lessons in May. Maybe we can catch fish, corals, etc and trade for equipment! [emoji13]

  6. There's not a whole lot to update on this. There's some adorable little shrimp, they swim around and eat algae...
I did pull apart a few of the moss balls and glued the pieces to the rock. We'll see how that works out.

  7. Jeff has gotten some choice rock flowers some that retail for 150 dollars! That’s what happens when you put in a huge order of rock flowers! Thanks again Cuttlefish!
We have 70 total including the one that goes to Tanks for Teachers .

Initially I was going to have people draw for each rock flower but due to the sheer volume that just wasn’t going to work so as long as you got 4 or less you get to pick your rock flowers all at once.
You get roughly 30 seconds per pick but you will get a chance to preview them.
We will start picking at 330 pm. If you are not present at 330pm ( that means you PDXMonkey [emoji6]) you will be skipped and you pick at the end.

Again don’t sweat it if you’re toward the end. These are all hand picked and the best of the best!!
Here is the order!! (Ron got 2 picks since he has 8)

  8. Sure if you’re in a group! Not so much at 2am.[emoji51] alone. Oh the shark exhibit is cool at Golden Nugget by the way. It’s built into the swimming area!  You get to swim with sharks in a safe way!

The Mandalay Bay shark exhibit overrated in my opinion.

Shark exhibit?? Swim with sharks?? I wanna go visit that hotel while there! I’ve never been to Vegas.

  9. Yeah - noticed her showing up here lately... really glad to have her on board!  Need someone to give us the lowdown on what you are really up to
Glad to hear the leak and electrical fire didn't turn out worse... scary stuff!

Thanks. Everyone in the community have been super sweet.

  10. Yes she’s in deep. Three tanks in her bedroom and then the 100g in her office. And she still has me on the hunt for the what she considers the perfect sized 300g (at the perfect price) to upgrade her 180g.

Well I don’t know about the “perfect” size, maybe for the bedroom but a 450 ish would be awesome for the living room! [emoji4]

  11. Last night we are lying in bed watching a movie, all cozy...feeling sleepy....when Sharklover pauses it saying “that’s a sound I don’t know”. He looks over at the 180 gallon in my bedroom. After a few seconds he gets up to investigate and says “there’s a fire”. I immediately jump out of bed. Then he follows with “there’s a leak”. At this point, I can smell burnt wires and I’m standing there as he pulls things out from around the aquarium with what I can only imagine is a panic look on my face. Apparently the emergency overflow had a little water in it and it leaked down dripping on the electrical outlet making it spark. So thankful it wasn’t worse!

Or in our case, naughty big crab rips snails out their shells to get new real estate. He and his brother now live in the penalty box together. 🤨
