  1. Been about 6 months since I checked in with y’all. Big things are in the works. Just built a frag tank set up and started cycling it last week. Pretty excited. Got some nice current shots of the 72g bowfront display tank too. Still battling flatworms and a phosphate reading of 1.4, yes that’s right, 1.4, down from a coral killing 3.1 ......life got busy, skimmer pimp went out, salt got back ordered then didn’t get shipped, well went dry so I have to get rodi water from a H2O vending machine in front of Albertsons. Skimmer is back up, dosing nopox and doing weekly water changes has it down to 0.9 - 1.4 so we’re getting there haha sps is growing like crazy though. Clams are happy, lps isn’t liking it though. Some Zoas and hammers aren’t happy. But that might be the flatworms. They’re bad and I need to dose Flatworm Exit but I don’t want another phosphate spike. Anyways, enjoy :)49983521692329efa4beaa494ac86dd9.jpg92d429c67d39d5213f541af4d38d36cf.jpga9524a7fbf47732b230a08ff6ba7bd02.jpgded887bd30434b460181b54dc493d5f2.jpgcca869ad12de547e6c655106a551e518.jpg

  2. Took a solid hour, but I had success! Just had to get the big ole vlamingi out of the way! Although he actually helped by kicking up the food so it started pouring out the entrance. That's what enticed the butterfly to dive in. 0f763f395aff96cf1330e75bf8174040.jpg374dc2664c1b4f9a76b39664ee04fb4c.jpg

It’s always the fish you don’t want to trap who has no problem going into the trap haha

I get my water from the front of Albertsons. The drinking water refill machines have an amazing 7 part RO filter including 2 UV sterilizers. I’ve been using that water 80% of the time for the last year and a half. I’m on a well so making RO water takes a toll and a long time. Or I can go to Albertsons or Safeway and pay $8 and have 20 gallons in about 5 minutes.

  4. So if there is one thing this hobby has taught me it’s that A: Nothing Good happens fast. B: Bad things can happen very quickly if you don’t do your part to prevent them.

I got flatworms because I used to never dip corals. I let them get way out of control because I didn’t see any real damage so I thought it was no big deal. After dosing Flatworm Exit 6 times with a double strength dose each time I had killed 99% of them. Only problem was, I slacked on water changes, then my skimmer went out. Then my salt got back ordered and set my water changes back another month. The result was me losing most of my sps, some Zoa colonies and an acan colony. Along with a torch colony and I’m sure a few others I’ve managed to forget about.

After 2 months of weekly 25% water changes and dosing NoPox I’m finally back to being beautiful. Phosphates were at 3.4! Now I’m excited to be at .5, that’s right, not .05, .5! My tank looks great and I’m still dosing and doing water changes. Also took out 3 tangs, and a coral beauty. So the bioload is smaller. Got my skimmer working better than ever with a bigger pump. I’m pretty excited. Oh, and I got a copperband and got it to eat mysis! He’ll be going in this weekend :)479a816498fe4fbd8613b6e90a32a28a.jpg

I really wish I could post a video of the tank I took this morning.

  5. I used Red Sea Coral Pro salt from the start for over a year. My corals were ok, but never really seemed to grow that well unless I was dosing heavily. For the last 8 months I’ve been using Instant Ocean and not dosing and everything is growing so much better

  6. That is interesting.  What is your source for that?  Just curious if it might be specific.

My parents had a blue tang with LLD and sold it to a fish store. He gave it red nori and better food and it healed up. He’s said it’s always worked for him and it seemed to help my blue tang when her face started looking bad.

  7. Sorry to all I’ve made plans with, unexpected financial obligations and a phosphate swing have taken me out of the running for coming up this weekend. I lost my red planet colony and almost lost my entire garf bonsai. Pretty bummed. c3aa4b58720afc25567f80150709c930.jpg

On a more positive note, my Darwin clowns are finally laying eggs after over a year and a half of not laying. I’m excited to try to raise a batch. Or if someone else really knows what they’re doing, maybe I can pass the pot off to you? c0c2957f8219421ec4f6aa98d1224075.jpg8efbadee485b87f9baec50065659f631.jpg
