  1. No, I found a app with a filter. Read the suggestion about the glasses after I went through the hassle of loading a ton of apps to find a decent one, lol. Glasses next time!

Which app did you find to be the best. I would like to give it a whirl.

  2. The stores are stocking up and getting ready for the PNWMAS Party Bus, which hits the road on Saturday, November 21!

Here's what we've got so far:

GOLDEN BASKET is doing a raffle for a $50 gift certificate and other fun games for free corals!  If you have not been to Golden Basket, be prepared...it's nothing like you've ever seen.  It is Frag Heaven.  And Rudy is the bomb.

CUTTLEFISH...20% off all livestock!  That's fish.  That's inverts.  That's corals.  The tanks are full to the gills (ha ha, pun) and there is a huge variety of corals available.  Jeff is known for its quality SPS collection and one-of-a-kind LPS corals.  Don't miss this.

OCEAN IN A BOX has made a huge order in anticipation of our arrival.  Jason's expecting a great shipment of corals, including mushrooms galore--discosomas, ricordeas, rhodactis, as well as other soft corals.  And for purchases over $30, Jason will throw in a package of his own specially prepared frozen food.

UPSCALES is doing a super-generous raffle right now for an Inovative Marine Fusion 20 Tank/Skimmate Skimmer/and two spin streams...$350 value...for every can of food donated to the food drive.  This raffle is open to everyone, not just those on the Party Bus, so don't forget to stop by regardless of whether or not you're a partier.  I'll be contacting Travis toward the end of the week to find out what else is going on at Upscales.

I'm totally pumped for the tour.  Geeking out with other geeks on a too-cool bus getting killer deals.

There are still a few spots left.  It's only $30 for paid members and $40 for non-paying members, plus 2 cans of food or $5 cash for the Oregon Food Bank.  Here's the link to the sign-up thread.  http://www.pnwmas.org/topic/35949-party-bus-sign-up-open/

You gotta be ON THE BUS to GET THE DEALS!  See you all there!

  3. I haven't had cable in almost 6 years now. I stream hulu, netflix, amazon prime, youtube and I rent movies on Vudu. I "legally" download HD movies :nono: and television shows on torrents using bit torrent so I can take my expensive TV out for a test-drive once in awhile. I also visit the red box occasionally. I tried the Roku for awhile but by the time I paid the monthly memberships for my favorite channels, I was back up to the price of my old cable bill. Unfortunately there is no one service or combination of streaming services that will give you the freedom and diversity of useless crap like cable does. After 6 years, I have pretty much exhausted the streaming services for all their good content and I am now watching things like "Zombeaver". The initial pains of getting rid of cable will pass. I often found myself pacing around the house like a crackhead looking for my next fix, willing to do bad things in dark alleys, but I stayed clean. One the upside of things, the savings and the boredom will force you to stimulate the coral market. To further my savings, I keep my internet bill down by calling and cancelling every 3 months. When I got my internet they gave me a good deal and when that deal ran out I called and threatened to cancel. I have been doing that now for about 5 years and have never paid more than what the "promotional price" is when I call. Hope you find what your looking for because I haven't, I miss cable but not the bill.

  4. Been wanting a Dendrophyllia since getting back into the hobby, sure am happy I didn't pass this bad boy up. Opened up right away and is already eating. Super happy with the new addition. We are going to need a bigger tank. As usual, thanks for the quality LPS.

  5. I was very flustered over the situation and as a result I didn't consider where I was posting, I just posted. Paratores reputation is not what I was after, it was answers. Sorry Paratore and the rest of the community for publicly posting and not having the clarity to realize I should move the conversation private. I have since done so.

  6. So I posted an update of my corals on another forum and I had somebody come down on me pretty hard for misrepresenting what I had. What you told me and what you claim on this thread is not "Green Bay Packers". According to the members of Reef Central, Nano Reef, Zoabrary.com, Zooid.com, cuttlefish is selling green bay packers (look nothing like this), and various vendors, your information is incorrect. They are in fact radioactive dragon eyes. Unless you can provide me some solid evidence that everybody is wrong, I will assume that you do not know what you are selling and others should not be misled into thinking they have something they don't.

  7. +1 on the peppermint shrimp

When I was done cycling my nano I discovered an orgy of aptasia behind my rocks (30+), they were still pretty small. I was strolling through OIAB and noticed he was putting some frags in the peppermint shrimp tank and he told me he was training them to eat aptasia, so I purchased 2 of them and sure enough all the aptasia is gone and has yet to return.

  8. It's crazy how a laser does that much damage. Have you ever seen one work in person? I think it would be so fun to "hunt" the majanos and watch them burn haha.

I have only seen it once at what use to be my LFS in california "bretts tropical fish" and he swore by it.

  9. Have any of you guys ever used a laser to eliminate majanos or aiptasia? I've seen the YouTube videos but was curious if anyone on here has used one before. My fathers display has LOTS of majanos and we are trying to find an efficient way to eliminate them.

    Thanks in advance!

I came across this a month or so ago:

  10. I have one on my kitchen window seal. :D Have had it for 4 yrs now. Got it from Sarracenia  Northwest

Oh dang, did you go to one of their open houses? I have about 35 or so different species of Sarracenia I think I will hand out to some of the members come spring, free of charge of course. Every spring I need to make room. When they are coming out of dormancy I will make an announcement and anybody that is interested can have some.

  11. I just recently moved here from Phoenix myself, and although the group on this site is nowhere near the size of the group in Phoenix on RC, there's still quite a bit of stuff for sale here. Craigslist here is fairly good. And don't quote me, but I think petco is running their $1 per gallon deal right now, so that could be an inexpensive way to get started (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

The $1/gal sale is until November 7th; one day left.

  12. I have been looking into upgrading to a larger reef tank (shhhhhh don't tell my wife, seriously don't). I have been pricing 40-60 gal AIO vs build your owns and I certainly am lured to the ease of assembly and reduced guess work that comes with AIO. I digress, my question is, do you feel that at a certain point that the AIO becomes less effective at sustaining a healthy reef? I can see that my Nuvo10 AIO is very sufficient at maintaining 10 gallons of water. But i wonder if a 60 gallon AIO sump is in the realm of trying to cram to much crap into a small space and if the reef is heavily populated, would that push the AIO past its capabilities (thinking longterm). At which point it would be better to build my own. Thank you for your time, Happy reefing!

  13. So now for the coral I added.

The following I got from Cuttle Fish. Thanks a ton Jeff.

These 2 I got from Upscale. The Monti is starting to darken up and the hermits have removed a lot of the algae that was growing on it when I got it.

This was a freebee from when I ordered my cleanup crew:

The photos make everything look big but everything is actually pretty small. Here is what it looks like it the Nuvo 10:

This is what it looks like without filtering out the blue, this is the natural look of the tank 24-7:

Thank you for your interest in my voyage and I hope to post more as I progress forward. Happy reefing everybody!

  14. The other thing that was bothering me to no end was the clutter in the 3rd space in the sump. The Ebo was to big, causing the ATO to malfunction. The clip holding the ATO hose was ridiculously bulky and the PH probe and the temp probe were being crushed in the corner. First thing I did was get rid of the heater and replaced it with a "ARCHAEA MINI AQUARIUM HEATER (50W) ULTRA SLIM", it is insanely small. I also got rid of suction cups and used zip ties instead. This is what it was:

    P1030787_zpspvax3hbp.jpeg

    and this is now:

    P1030823_zps1xtjyo9u.jpg

I also got rid of the Koralia nano 240 and put in the new MP10QD. I do not usually subscribe to hype but all I can say about the MP10 is "WOW".

    P1030902_zpshbaofnvl.jpg

I am running it on reef crest at 40%.

  15. Ok. I have to admit that I got caught up in the frenzy of getting the tank up and running so I cut corners and half-assed some stuff. This week I added some awesome coral, changed out some hardware and did some cosmetic adjustments. I will save the best for last so the coral pics will be at the end, here we go with the update

First thing I had to change was the inside of the cabinet. I was in such a hurry to have a tank up and running that I took a piece of plywood that was screwed to the rafters in my garage, cut the length and screwed it in. I also threw in a 10 gallon tank that was way to big to serve as an ATO reservoir and replaced it with a 5.5 gallon. Remember this:

    P1030785_zpsrjlrb0xx.jpeg

    now it looks like this:

  16. Hi all! I actually live in Arizona but my brother is in Portland. He would like to set up a tank; 29gal-60gal. Where is the best place to purchase? Does this forum have a buy/sell section? Is there another site/forum for the area where there is a buy/sell section?

I am fortunate to have a reef club on reefcentral.com. Unfortunately, there is not a club listed for the Portland area. Any suggestions would be helpful; such as good saltwater stores, etc.

Thank you for your time in reading this!

I was born and raised in Arizona so its very nice to meet a fellow Arizonian and to solute you in your ability to live in an oven . I was up until very recently in the same boat as your brother. I made the mistake of ordering my tank and equipment online and I quickly regretted that decision. I had issues with multiple products (heater, ATO, AUQA media basket) and resolving the issues became more of a hassle than I ever care to deal with again. In most cases it became cheaper and less headache to just take the loss.

I really wish I would have shopped locally. Locally, my personal experience has taken me to "cuttle fish and corals" and "upscales", and both shops have been more than willing to help me obtain whatever my aquarium needs may be. In some cases they cost a little more than what you find online but to me it is insignificant and a small price to pay for a piece of mind. I will gladly pay a few extra bucks to be able to walk into a shop with a problem and find accountability and integrity.

If used is not an issue, there is excellent deals on tanks and equipment on the forums in the "classified threads." I have dealt with quite a few members on the forums and have found honesty, fairness, integrity and a passion for helping fellow aquarists thrive in the hobby.

In summary, you have landed in the right place. Between the local sponsors and the members here on the forums, all of your brothers aquarium needs can be met. I really wish your brother success in his pursuit of the hobby and happy reefing to the both of you.

  17. As mentioned there will be special promotions for those who pay for a spot on the party bus. We will have special wrist bands so that the sponsors know. It is my pleasure to announce that

Jeff at Cuttlefish and Corals has just announced the first promotion! And it is..... :rimshot:  :rimshot:

20% of all livestock! That's fish! That's invertebrates! That is coral! :yahoo:

What an awesome deal! :icon_bow:   :applause:    Remember this deal is only for the lucky people who buy a spot on the party bus! Heck if you spend a 100 dollars at Jeff's (easy to do... ) The discount practically pays for the spot! Even if you don't know if you can ride the whole way you can still buy a spot to get the special discount!

More discounts coming! Please keep posted to this thread!

  18. I tried to read it but decided to stare at the pretty pics instead. Every sentence sounds like some incredibly complex ancient proverb. I am pretty sure I found the answer to eternal happiness in this sentence: "It is the sense that is near to the play to let you make final dyeing with an additive, and motivation is fried."

  19. I have one, sensitive to flow and water conditions more then most softies but much easier then sps. They like room as they will sting, careful with changing the tanks parameters to fast as they can have receding growth

Thank you for the info, it is greatly appreciated.

  20. Does anybody have any experience with "Blue Cespitularia". If so, could you tell me if you would recommend it and what conditions you kept it in. I am considering purchasing for my nano but would love to hear from the community first. Happy Reefing!
