  1. Well right now the skeleton is white-ish. I don't know if that's normal or if it got bleached from the mini-crash we had last weekend from our nudibranch. The polyps are tiny but a little bit larger than that of say, birdsnest. I will try to post a photo of the skeleton with the polyps retracted..
  2. It is! And I actually just noticed another (tinier) one on the same rock while I was looking hard at it. I think the little fluorescent tips are really neat.. I'm just wondering if it's supposed to be this color or if it's browned out because it's at the bottom... I wish I had a macro lens so I could get a better photo. When I touched it the polyps retracted and it's definitely starting to grow out into a small stony branch. Too bad it's on a large supporting rock at the bottom or I'd move it upward :/
  3. I just reached my hand in the tank and touched it and it's most definitely an SPS...
  4. Are their polyps flower/star shaped like mine? I googled galaxy coral and to me they look more like a torch...
  5. I brought this little hitchhiker home on some live rock last month and I don't know what it is... Is it a leather? It's growing slowly and I wanna make sure I have it in the right part of the tank. Right now the rock is near the bottom...
  6. Oh that's cool! 12 feet long though, I mean maybe it would fit in the living room or something, idk... Probably take up all your living space though
  7. Get this- now my 7 year old (wicked smart) daughter wants her "own" reef tank. LOL! It's a sickness! HAHA I told her that IF she can learn everything there is to know about how a saltwater aquarium works that one day we may possibly set one up for her. Hehe. So since then she's been asking me to teach her and give her daily quizzes on her knowledge :p So far she understands the nitrogen cycle, she can identify the differences between softies, LPS and SPS, she knows what a sump is for, what a skimmer is for, and 3 different types of lighting! Oh and today I taught her about how corals use photosynthesis
  8. 950!! LOL now THAT Is crazy big for a house... you could practically start charging admission to see it (laugh) I'm sure it would be amazing though Yeaaah I think at that point when I talked to you I was still in denial that I was gonna wanna go bigger...but here we are!
  9. They're great! The Koralias have been hereby pronounced UNPLUGGED! And yea the tang is a happy camper although he looks rather purple in the photo, which he is not My camera does strange things in dim lighting...
  10. Here's a pic of my 90 gallon reef tank. My elegance coral has been sad ever since the nudi incident last weekend :'(
  11. Hahaha! Sorry! There's not much to take pics of yet! But I'll take a pic of the new sump & our current 90 gallon tomorrow. PROMISE
  12. Annnnd... we also have new plans to turn our 90 gallon into an octopus tank once everything is moved Figure it doesn't make a lot of sense to sell our 90 when we put a bunch of money into it already. May as well enjoy it =D
  13. We ARE making progress Today we picked up 2 MP40's (we will probably end up buying a couple/few more- those things are amazing) and our skimmer was ordered. We ended up following Garrett's recommendation and went with a Reef Octopus Extreme XS250. It's rated to 250 gallons but he said it's hard working so it'll be fine with our tank. Especially because we're not planning on having a tremendous bioload. I'm also EXTREMELY happy that he found a sump for us! It's an acrylic that's measurements are *approx* (cuz I forgot the dimensions exactly) 48"x 17 3/4"x 28ish". We're gonna have to make a couple more baffles as soon as we know the appropriate water level for this skimmer we're getting... But yea! It needs to be scrubbed clean but I'll post pics soon =D =D
  14. AWESOME! Thanks so much. That might just be the problem solver! (clap)
  15. Yes, nice to meet you!! Garrett told me who you were I think that 23" is the max, yea... The interior height of the stand is 25.5" and we'll still need room to remove the cup...

  17. I don't think it can be taller than 23" max! Otherwise we won't be able to remove the cup...
  18. Cool!! So... I wonder where I could find the size information on this. We need a skimmer that isn't taller than like 23 inches I think.... Also, can people even buy these yet or are they just coming out??
  19. That's very interesting! I'll have to do some research on that. So an update on the build- Looks like we're going to make some unexpected changes! The protein skimmer that we ordered (and came in today) is going to be too tall. Doh! So frustrating! So now Garrett is trying to figure out another option...possibly using 2 smaller skimmers? Idk... Frustrating because I was hoping for a more clutter-free look "under the hood" but oh well, we'll do what we have to do to make it work. It's annoying though! Serious design flaw IMO! Obviously a big tank is gonna need a big skimmer so why wouldn't they design a stand able to accommodate that? Sigh... Also, a custom sump is gonna happen! Probably a footprint of about 48x30, custom with a refugium & live rock chamber & 2 filter socks. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need to see a chiropractor later this week, but the stand and hood are in the house. Woot woot! It looks beautiful <3
