  1. I was spending about the same per year on media, maybe slightly more with 2-part. I went through 2 gallons of ARM extra coarse reactor media every 12-14 months. I expect to go through a couple of gallons of the dry 2-part media this year. Next time I will buy in bulk to reduce the cost.

I have heard good things about the Bubble Magnus dosing pumps and I am partial to the Profilux (only because I haven't used the BM). The BRS dosing pumps require timers or controllers, but they are less expensive. Both the Bubble Magnus and Profilux have built in controllers.

Wow not cheap, lol, but what is in this hobby. Is it neccesary to have 4 dosing pumps like the profilux? What needs to be dosed?

  2. I think I am leaning towards dosing still, I really dont want a co2 tank in the house and if something were to happen it seems like the reactor could cause more problems faster. Am I wrong? I also don't want to buy a controller, which I have also heard pretty much needs a controller to be safe, like reefnjunkie said.

  3. Thanks you guys for the great input. I was kinda leaning towards the dosing pumps, I bought a reactor and sold it before I even used it because it looked like a lot to worry about during the initial setup. What are the costs for reactor media and co2 vs the dosing liquids(or powders)? What is a good dosing pump? I don't like to go cheap, I have learned that you will more than likely be replacing cheap stuff later on down the road, like my s**tty coralife skimmer that won't create the vortex in the chamber like it used to and was constantly overflowing.

  4. Just thought I would get some new input on the topic. Please don't just answer one or the other, let us all know what you are using and how it has helped. Thanks ahead for any input. I am just thinking it's time to take my tank to the next level. Also please post costs involved if you could.

  5. I remember him saying atleast fire and ice, ked reds??, oregon ducks, there are some cool looking orange ones.... lets see if i have anything on photobucket. Not real clear and this was right after the transfer. I will get nice pictures once I put them on plugs.

  6. So I have been looking at zoas alot online because I have a 30 breeder pretty much full of them, and it seems that there are about a gazillion differnet names for them. I even see alot that look almost identical that are being called different names by differnet people. Is there a book or site that you can id these with or can I just call them whatever I want when I go to sell them? lol. Thanks for any input.

  7. Wow NO support braces on that 120 gallon stand' date=' Ballsy![/quote']

There is one up front, and it had a back when I got it, I was going to brace it up, thats why I have the extra wood that I am offering. Just decide to build a metal frame now because I got a good deal on material.

You get what you pay for in bulbs. Most cheap bulbs work well for the first one-two months but then have a huge drop in par and spectrum. I have run both . Biggest problem with cheapys is the consistancy. One bulb great color next is a algea farm grower.

Yeah I believe in you get what you pay for, but on average they should be replaced every 6-12 months so if you stay on schedule I would think you would be OK.

  9. I've seen sales on marine depot for $38 for 250 watt Phoenix bulbs. Can't beat it.

Yeah I agree, If I would have seen them for that I would buy them. I just can't justify spending $90 on a light bulb, there is better stuff I can buy for my tank tahn that. Besides I could do a multi chip LED build for the price of two bulbs and only have to replace it in like 10 years from now. lol

  10. Ebay, I don't care what anyone says, the cheap bulbs look identical to the $90 ones, just paid 47.50 shipped for two 250w 20,000k china bulbs. Swap them out at 6 months instead of 9 the way I see it. These are rated for 9000 hrs but they will fade over time. I would like to see a par comparison between the cheapos and the name brand... Anyone done that before?
