My understanding of a DSB is also that the bacteria that builds up in it disposes of the waste by turning it to gas form. Removing this large piece of natural biological filtration could cause a large problem. Just like when carbon is left in a reactor for a long period of time it builds up biological filtration instead of mechanical filtration and at that point changing your carbon could could make your system unstable and it's recommended to replace only a portion of your carbon in that case. I do a lot of research from many sources in my spare time and have heard this from many sources. Never have I heard of swapping a DSB because it builds to much waste' date=' nor would I ever do so. I like to look at my tank as how does a real reef work and at what point can I stop changing my water? When I have all the elements to purify the water that the reef uses. IE: Cryptic zone(non photosynthetic organisms pulling nutrients from the water column) Refugium(Also pulling nutrients from the water but require photosynthesis) and A DSB which has small living organisms that physically eat waste and turn it to a gas. Just like how earth worms do to enrich soil, they are beneficial in the health of soil and promoting plant growth. I'm not trying to argue with anyone's thoughts or opinions. I just like the natural side of things. Not so many fancy things [/quote']
From what ive read replacing it every few years is basically mandatory, eventually it will become filled with nutrients that will be leeched back to the system, its only one time every few years but this is just what ive read. Its not something youd have to do until the system has really matured. As much as wed like our systems to operate naturally we dont have beaches of sand nor the amount of cleaners in that sand to have it operate untouched

A nice macro garden with a cool mantis would be awesome (rock2)
Until your trimming your macro and get a good hit, but id run that risk

I had really good luck ordering in snails from reefcleaners.org. They are a sponsor. If you cant find what your looking for locally maybe give them a try.
Ive went thia route before and was extremely happy with my order, actually got dozens more animals then i even ordered

He sure is. He is a very curious critter. I can tell he is going to be a real charmer once he joins the gang in the parrot room. I'm thinking about making the tank a low light mushroom garden with lots of different mushroom corals.

quick easyAwesome! Clip on it might be! I have 3 fans I planned on building into a canopy so i could use those. But your idea is super easy! I like easy. Haha
Yeah i planned on computer fans in a hood ended up not getting one and had to make it work lol and its just a little cleaner then a stand alone fan blasting lights lol

quick easy

What i have going is a clip on fan about a foot off the water facing straight at water clipped on drain
-
Oh and you might want to get a fan to run on water or pendant to counter act heat and make more stable
-
Overall looks WAY brighter, less blue i dig it. Good choice, got enough light for anything now!
-
Lower will cause more shade, i got shaded areas i use them to light aclimate things that come from leds and t5, i now have my lights about 10-11 in i burned some things at 9in, if you raise an inch you could grt rid of some shade, it also has to do with the islands compared to the center placed fixture
-
That is amazing good job!!! And congrats on the nice zoas!
-
I so wish i could make this one. Got to do some trading eventually cuttle if you dont already gotEVERYTHING so i can see your tanks!!!
