I used all dry rock and sand to set up my tank, will I ever get the microscopic food in my tank? Will that be enough food until I can get the oyster feast for it next weekend? Also the clam I ordered is larger than 3 inches is feeding still necessary?

Sounds like it should be fine with the shrimp, that's a relief. My tank has been 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate for three weeks and I didn't get a spike when I added my yellow tang and royal gramma. My calcium is at 500 is that good or should I somehow lower it? Oh and the clam I'm getting is 3+ inches

Do any of you have a cleaner shrimp and a clam in the same tank. I heard from some places that cleaner shrimp will eat my clam and now I'm worried because I have a cleaner shrimp and I am getting a clam in the mail Tuesday. I also need to know how tall my new derasa clam will grow, I know they will grow pretty long but I need to know how tall they grow in order to put it in a spot that wont block corals in the future.

I would email BRS and see what they say. I would be worried about the chemicals reacting differently after being frozen.

What types are more prone? I like the looks of scarlet hermits, but they are pretty expensive online (for hermits) and I have never seen them in stores.

What kind of hermits do you have?

What's your opinion on having hermit crabs in reef tanks? Some places say they are no risk others say they are. My new tang makes quite a mess with his nori sheets and is pooping more than a cow. I would like to have something that cleans up after him, but I don't want a 25 cent crab eating my $100 dollar coral in the future.

I thought I'd introduce myself. My names Mitchell, I am 17 and I started off with an aquapod 24 gallon four years ago, but was really restricted by the tank and could never really get into the hobby. Last month I set up a 55 gallon and have been loving it ever since. Its a standard size 55 gallon (48", 13", 20") with a 48" 216 watt HO T5 light, 50 lbs of sand, 50 lbs of MarcoRock, a 1050 gph Evo, and a 200 watt Eheim Jager. Tomorrow I will set up my Bulk Reef Supply Deluxe Reactor to run premium Rox carbon and GFO and next week my Eshopps PSK-100h protein skimmer should come in. I currently have two Ocellaris Clownfish, a Yellow Tang, a Royal Gramma, and a Green Hairy Mushroom Coral. I plan on becoming an actual card carrying member and will hopefully be able to attend the January meeting if things work out.
