  1. hehehe This is what happens when 30 year olds go back to school. hehehe I get the reactions and stuff, but when they toss in a bunch of math, it seems I'm completely lost. I did get the answer right on the homework though, so that's awesome...midterm this week so let's hope I can do as well on that as I've been doing in the rest of the class!

I *wish* I wanted to major in social sciences and fine art...lol Next term starts my anatomy & physiology series, statistics, and psychology. Psychology is going to be a breeze...it's the other two I'm going to stress about.

  2. Hey guys. This is mrs.orion. Anyone here able to explain Molarity as it relates to density??? I'm completely stuck on a homework problem (for some reason the steps to the math aren't making sense to me).

    Here's the problem :

A solution is prepared by dissolving 22.4 g NaOH in 124.0 g of water. The NaOH solution has a density of 1.15 g/mL.

    a) What is the % (m/m) concentration of the NaOH solution?

    15.3% (This one I got!)

    b) What is the total volume (mL) of the solution?

This is where I'm having an issue....

    c) What is the molarity ( M ) of the solution?

This one I'll have no trouble answering once I get over the part b block.

I'm also assuming I'll need the molar mass at some point (which is 39.998 g/mole - I can round sig figs later).

  3. Like Shane said, they are reef safe.

Chitons do make a cool addition to your tank. They are algae eaters and will harm nothing. I once had a Gumboot Chiton (Cryptochiton stelleri) that was about a foot in length that we kept in the coldwater tank at the dive shop I worked at years ago.

Wow that is a nice pic how cool!! My wife laughs at me as I spend anywhere from 1 to 3 hours a night looking at the tank in the dark (nutty) I am just amazed at all the action in the tank after the lights go out. There is a lot of discussion on bristle worms I am going to keep an eye on them but for now I am going to leave them alone. Thanks once again for all the input guys (clap)

  4. Thanks guys! We don't want to kill anything that might be OK for the tank, but if it's bad, we're all about elimination...heh

For instance, I just spotted what we can only describe as a bristle worm. Research has said both good and bad...do we yank it out and get rid of it or do we keep it in there for it's scavenger qualities?

  5. If the line with the ball valve is the return lift the hose up to the level you want your water in the skimmer put a T fitting at that level attach the hose on the horizontal side's and a straight pipe vertical open to air. The reason for the vertical pipe is if you don't open the top of the loop to air it will create a siphon and drain the skimmer I did a little mod to your photo I will try and get a pic of my setup for you picture.php?albumid=104&pictureid=614
