  1. There's my school sitting at #17. How does Boise get ranked way up there. We thumped them this year in our bowl game and ruined their perfect season and "Shoulda had a BCS bowl" whining. grrrrrr
  2. I've read about it. I witnessed my peppermint take a chunk of ricordea. I had 3 peppermints. I'm down to 1 thank goodness.
  3. all softies. mushrooms, maybe some zoas, star polyps, xenia. Mostly the things I don't want in the main tank
  4. sounds like a good idea. i have no idea what I'm going to go for fish wise now
  5. Utah vs. Alabama? /thread
  6. PAC 10 is overrated. MWC > PAC 10
  7. Bellissimo! what did you do with all of the corals you took out?
  8. One of the speakers at the conference set that tank up with a client. he showed us that video
  9. I've been dosing seachem an extra time a week.
  10. Hey CA2OR, do you still have your electric scallop? I'm thinking about getting one.
  11. Thanks! dosing calcium. I'm at 440 as of today. i started dosing calcium right before i bought my clams
  12. Pictures as promised So... the SPS stocking has begun! As you can see, I am NOT doing frag plugs. I know they are great for moving corals around until you can find the perfect spot, flow, and light for them... but I just can't do it. I want my tank to be aesthetic from the get go and get more so as everything grows in. Using epoxy is almost like creating your own frag plug as it only only takes a little bit of force to remove break the bond. I forgot to note that I've caught and removed 2 of my peppermints and I've added 1 Cleaner shrimp. I keep forgetting to take a picture of him. He likes to be a little poophead and work the back of the rocks until I put my hand in the tank. Then he runs over to clean my hands... He's out at night a lot as well. New Red Planet: The stylophora is bushy like hermione's hair!: Ponape Birdsnest & Oregon Tort: Forgot what this guys is. Encrusting coral that starts with an "S" I believe: I have some of these guys on the way: :naughtydance:
  13. on a continuation of notes... My decision to remove the jawfish house was met with heavy resistance today. Mr. Man is skulking at the very BACK of the tank and refuses to come out... even for food. I had to work even harder to incorporate the house back into the tank. I'm hoping he finds it tonight or tomorrow/tomorrow night sometime. Pics are delayed due to the water being slightly cloudy from reburying the jawfish house.
  14. Of major note... I've decided to remove the Jawfish house. It just wasn't working with my already too centralized scape. Mr. Man has dug two other holes that he doesn't spend any time in, but they are there. They are both at the front of the tank. I'm hoping he decides to adopt one. If he starts stressing, I'll add his house back. On a sad note, I broke off a piece of my birdsnest while being clumsy. I epoxied it back to the rock... but it doesn't look as good as it did originally. I also was able to find my lost acan after removing the jawfish house and scooping sand from the back of the tank to the front. Only two shriveled up heads remain. I glued it in place. If it makes a come back, I'll be a happy camper... It's green on the outside with a red mouth. Completely opposite of my blasto. On a happy note, I've added an ORA Red Planet. SPS stocking has begun! Pics tomorrow (techinally later today)
  15. I originally planned a goby/shrimp pair... but i've read a lot about how much sand the shrimp will move and completely bury a small scape. I really want to do a pair... but I think I'll save them for a larger tank.
  16. Thank you... I'm still trying to figure out livestock. I really need tiny fish to keep the scale. I just hate anything that looks too big or isn't sedentary. My clownfish in my 34 gallon make me nervous because they aren't hosting. I feel the tank is too small for them if they are going to swim around all over the place. I'm trying to do something interesting for the tank. Maybe barnacle blennies?
  17. the vortech is nuts. I thought the mp20 had crazy flow... i used the upgrade kit to change my mp20 to an mp40w. I can't turn it up past halfway without an absolute mess in the tank.
  18. those are cool! lol... The Solana stays!
  19. you guys are too much! I'm only adding softies to this tank at this point. I'm not sure what i'll do live stock wise with this tank. I was planning a goby/shrimp pairing, but I've read recently how it's a bad idea for a smaller tank as the shrimp will pile up a huge amount of sand. we'll see. The big tank is looming over my future.
  20. I've been scheming to break down my little 5.5 gallon FW tank and turn it into a softie tank. It has begun! I already have the other rock that will go in this tank, but I'm currently in the process of killing of the aggressive, encrusting coral that's on it. Just soaked that sucker in pure hydrogen peroxide, and now i'm going to leave it outside to dry for a few days. Equipment: 5.5 Gallon Aqua Design Amano Mini M ADA Solar Mini M w/ 18 watt 460nm/10,000K PC Hydor ETH 200 Inline Heater Ecco 2232 Canister Filter Do!Aqua and ADA Lily Pipe Inlet and Outlets Filtration: I went back and forth on an Aqua clear or deco art HOB. I didn't want a big filter being visible behind the tank, and I didn't think the Deco Art would be powerful enough... So I decided to use my existing Eheim Ecco 2232 canister (rated for 35 gallons and 127 gph). I think this will be a fantastic option as it will allow me to use my lily pipes for inconspicuous filtration. I also have a Hydor ETH 200 plumbed inline so that I don't have to add an internal heater. I was planning on using a left over 50 watt heater. I'm only using the coarse filter sponge, the carbon pad, and a container filled with live rock rubble. I will forgo the fine filter pad for now. My weekly water changes will be super easy as i'll just quick disconnect the filter, pull the containers out (they lock together as one unit), pour the water in it down the toliet, and dunk the canister into the SW bucket to fill it back up. Flow:I have a koralia nano i won at a local SW conference. I'm going to let the filter provide the flow for now. Lighting: My one gripe is that the light fixture isn't long enough to allow for a longer bulb. I can only fit a 9-10" bulb when the tank is 12" long. Frustrating! I'm having to settle for reduced power with an 18 watt 50/50 instead of a higher powered 27-32 watt bulb. if i went without the actinic, there are 27 watt bulbs that fit the fixture. I've seen a 70 Watt MH retro into one of these light fixtures... I may have to think about that.
  21. New Update: pardon my pictures this go around... my skimmer is spitting out mad bubbles at the moment. The tank looks a little cloudy, but it's all micro bubbles. Added 2 new acans and a sour apple bird's nest. As you can see, I've integrated the jawfish house into the scape. I built up LR around it and filled sand inbetween the barnacle and the LR. The jawfish has been moving rubble all day long. Overhead: Right hand side: Left Hand side: New Acans and old Leptastrea: New Zoas (Thanks Big Mac!): New Birdsnest: Gonoipora: Close Up Left side (my last remaining byropsis lives here) Sweet Hatian Ric (thanks Mac Attack!) 22. Thank Goodness! If this thread had stayed open by the end of the month I would have bought it. I have to constrain my impulses... lol
