Kind of depends on what you "need". There's lots of good projects out there. I would just scroll though the DIY forums and see what others have done all ready.

+1 on the Phoenix 14k. It's a bluer bulb than a normal 14k. It's always better to support your local shop and buy from them but online will always have the best price. Buy back ups and change them out regularly. I wouldn't recommend buying used bulbs. What size I'd your tank?

Nerdy aquarium chat? I'm there. Hopefully some nerdy car chat will be sprinkled in as well.

Yikes! I wasn't saying there wernt and young people on the site, I just got this mental image of an 11 year old throwing down $300 for a new skimmer and was curious.

I wish I had the cash at age 11 to be in to this hobby (scratch)

Not to crash your thread but i'm really leaning towards a DIY LED set-up. Question is my tank is 70"l by 36" by 24" How would I go about it one HUGE square pendant or multiple smaller pendants, I'd
want them equal to 400w MH's, as most seem to be more or less equal to 250w MH's Just wondering if someone could give me some direction. Thanks
Might be easier to break it up into separate panels. I'm not even sure the make them that big. Are you going to have a canopy or covering over the tank? If your looking for 400watt mh you can always add extra panels of white LEDs with optics that can be programmed to come on for a couple hours a day and make a "high noon". I'm hoping other will chime in too though.

Things are going well in the tank, I'm happy with my new open rock work and i have added about 8 or 9 frags (including 2 different really nice deep water acros) that ive been growing in the frag tank to the display tank to fill in. Just ordered a 12 UV led kit tonight. Looking forward to seeing how this will effect the lighting. Anyone else running UV?

I usually have the blues set on 10-13 hours and all lights 6-8 hours depending on the clients desires
I'm glad others are running a similiar schedule with the blues on 11-13. I wasn't sure if the led blues were more powerfully than my previous t5 actinics. Didn't want to fry anything.

Nope just the 1 alc module. I only have 2 drivers on my tank since it's small. your welcome to come check it out anytime.
Im hoping to check it out at the meeting. I've got a Reefkeeper and I'm debating on weather or not to run my lights with it.
-
Are you running more than one acl module?
-
Just curious what schedules other led tanks are running there lights at.
7:30 am to 9:00 PM 1/2 of the Royal Blues
12:30PM to 8:30PM All lights are on and running

Hold on, when did oiab start using 20 gallon tanks?
-
its not attached to the rock, i disloged it and set it on its side for now so i could photo it. The T5's should be fine for this, these are really hearty and great growers.
-
Bonus, if you look on the right side there is some blue green cyphastrea growing into a small spot that can be snapped off and grown out.

I've seen sales on marine depot for $38 for 250 watt Phoenix bulbs. Can't beat it.
