  1. If it were me, I'd start topping off with pre-mixed salt water instead of RO to replace evaporation. That should raise it slowly. Although I'm not sure how much evaporates from your tank. I go through 1-2 gallons per day. I had a similar problem awhile back and this is how I did mine.

  2. hope we dont have another CA2OR here....

It just isn't the same. I'm so used to checking "New Posts" and seeing CA2OR as the last poster in all the threads. (laugh)

Where ya at Eric? Hope all went well with your wife and kid.

  3. Reef Crystals had some problems with consistancy awhile back. From what I understand these issues have been resolved years ago. Seachem also had some issues with elevated levels of boron. Apparently those issues have also been resolved.

I've used both with good results. The only reason I'm using Reef Crystals right now is I got a great deal on them.

  4. From what I've read, emeralds love caulpera. Might be worth looking in to. I have emeralds in both my tanks and haven't had any problems with them. They really help out with the various forms of algae (bubble mainly) and haven't bothered anything else in either tank.

  5. Jason, awhile back I posted a pic of a large patch of hair algae I had in my tank. I was asking for help on this as well. I added a yellow tang, small short spine urchin, emerald crab, and a strawberry crab. All the hair algae was gone in two days and hasn't come back. I also increased my water changes though since my stock level has gone up, so that may have helped as well.

I didn't read all 8 pages of this thread, but have you tried an emerald crab and/or a small urchin? They ate mine very quickly.

  6. Ya, I used the head loss calculator on RC and it says I'm only pushing 50gph. The mj1200 was only used for about a week prior to this application. I bought a couple with the sureflow 1600 mods for my 75g, but couldn't deal with the vibration noise, so I took them out and put my k4s back in.

Now I'm thinking either the Eheim 1048, Eheim 1250, Mag 2, or Mag 3. Using the calculator, that would put me 125-275 depending on which one I choose. I like the idea of having more flow come from the return pump so I could ditch my bulky k3 and go with something smaller. The overflow box, powerhead, and HOB skimmer are quite the eye sore in there. They just take up so much room in a small tank.

  7. I don't think the mj1200 is working very well. The flow is VERY weak into the display. I use a u-tube style overflow and it keeps filling up with bubbles and losing siphon. I think I need more flow. Any suggestions?

  8. I currently have 40 lbs of LR in the 29g tank, so I don't need any additional bio-media. Removing the bio-balls and using chaeto in the sump instead sounds like it's the best option for my situation. Besides, I don't want the added maintenance of having to clean them regularly.

  9. Here are some inexpensive setups on CL that should work:

This would give you an inexpensive QT/Hospital tank. This is something you can, and probably will, use many more times in the future.

I'm not sure what fish you have remaining, but it may be cheaper in the long run to get one of these used tanks and treat them vs. buying them again.
