Saltwater fish I’m looking to sell or trade for coral. Unfortunately, nothing too exciting, but they are all well established fish and healthy. I have three Green Chromis, about two and a half inches. Good size. Six Yellowtail Blue Damsel. The reason I’m getting rid of these guys is that I’m interested in other fish. The three chromis were my sacrificial fish when I started the tank nearly two years ago. The Yellowtail fish I inherited when I helped someone break down their tank. The Chromis are five bucks when small, and the Yellowtails are about the same price. Total of $45 for all, but I’d rather trade if you have something. I’m in the process of trying to catch them and have an in tank quarantine that I’m using to keep them. Call me if interested, I’m located in the Bend/Sisters area. I'm also coming into Portland later in the month and hoping to visit Davey Jones, so I can bring them in if that would work for someone. Nick - 541-647-7820

I love these corals and I"ve not had any success with them either. When I asked this same question it was a little to late. The brown was the eventual death of it. I'll be watching to see what feedback you get. The only thing that I've come up with so far is adding magnesium. I'm watching a montapora and a acro that have been holding on over the last few months, and don't seem to be getting any worse since I started this about three weeks ago.

You know... an order was made and I went in and got him prob within 24-48 hours of getting to the store. Good advice. I did take some time in acclimating him to my tank, but that apparently didn't help either. I've read they will sometimes accept food that isn't alive, any tips on that for furture fish?

Stomach seemed to look fine. I'm thinking he got beat up because when I first put him in the yellowtail swatted at the mandarin. I also then witnessed another swim by the same day. I just figured there needed to be a little time for everyone to get familiar. I also looked to see if there was the same amount of copepods, which there wasn't. Seemed to be a significant reduction in the number I was able to find on the rocks at night. I like the idea of the lion fish, but he'd probably eat some of the other things I have too. Then I'd have to do something with him.

After a year and a half of watching and getting other substrate and sand from more established tanks I bought a Mandarin. Spot lighting at night I was able to see copepods everywhere so I felt confident there was adequate food supply. My question comes from what happened.... he died. I believe this is the result of being beaten up by my six yellowtail damsels and possibly my 3 green chromis. Has anyone ever had something like this happen before? I knew the yellow tail were very territorial considering they went after my arm anytime my hand was in the tank. I also noticed when I first put him in that a number of the yellow tail didn't like where he was hanging out. The day before finding him nearly upside down I noticed he was picking up some sand in his mouth and seemed to be doing pretty good. There were a few marks on his body and my feeble attempt at trying to nurse him back didn't help. Of course I didn't try mouth to mouth. Just wanted to ask if anyone has had a similar experience with these fish being so agressive? I've read up on the mandarin and felt comfortable with the needs and it appeared to be doing well the day before. Also, if anyone is interested, I'm thinking of getting rid of the potential offenders. Thanks!!!

Man you people are great.(rock2) The birds nest is kinda just browning out from the tips in. I've placed it in a couple of different places and not really found the sweet spot. I do need a little clarification. They like high light, but not a lot of water flow? I'll stop trying to feed it I guess as well. (clap) I'll try and get a pic up tomorrow of the birdsnest. I updated in June some pictures so there are some good overall shots of how it looks on my profile. Here is the skinny Tank and livestock Tank has been up and running since 07-08. It's 72 gal and has a bunch of other life that is doing really well. Mushrooms, frog spawn, leathers, and one other SPS, millepora (scratch), seem to be doing fine. I should note that I had two acropora frags that have also since passed on that I bought at the same time as the birdsnest, a zoo frag that recently shriveled up about a month ago after nearly a year, and some yellow star polops that have slowly disappeared. There doesn't seem to be any fish nipping or giving them a hard time. Don't know if what has recently not done well helps, but thought I'd mention it. I've got one 3 koralia on one side and my pump bringing water back in on the opposite end. Water All water levels test out great. Cal about 480 Alk between 10 and 12 Run about .21 to .23 salt I change water religiously every two weeks, so all other levels, nitrates, etc, look great. Lighting Running 4 bulbs T-5 with 2 10k lights for about four hours a day. With the Actunics (sp) on from about 8 am to 8 pm. Sundial fixture 48". Birdsnest It's being placed in a number of different areas from the bottom to as high up as I can get it about 12" from lights. However, higher also means more water movement for me. So, I'll try and change that tonight. Lengthy yes... but hopefully I answered everyone’s questions. Let me know and THANKS!!!

Hey all I recently bought a birdsnest and it's not doing so well. I've changed it to a couple of different locations in the tank, but at this point I think it's a gonner. So, knowing that I probably will buy another, what is the biggest factor, other than light, to keeping or gowing SPS. I have aT-5 light system and fairly good water movement. Anyfeedback would be helpful. Thanks!

I thought copepods were a sign of a healthy tank and were needed. But that must only be if you are interested in a mandarin.? Anything else go after them than fish?

Great to know the truth since I've been struggling with the downward trend now for awhile.

I'm looking for one of these to add to my tank, but wouldn't be able to pick one up until the first weekend in August. Keep me in mind if you still have one by then.

Man, those are some beautiful acros!!! You've got to love the different colors and how they grow. Any info on keeping these would be helpful for me to see if they are easy/not easy to keep? Point me in a direction so I can justify getting my hands on some!!!

Welcome and good to see another person in Central Oregon. I've benefited from COreefer's advice and input myself, though I've been fortunate not to have a tank crash. There are a ton of great people who are willing to share, which has helped me a ton. Learning from other peoples mistakes or attempts has been very helpful for me.

Pictures Here are the pictures. It's three full buckets with a few pieces in a fourth. The bucket with the dead rock is full and there is some in a plastic bag, probably for some reason I'm unaware of. Clay I'm probably going to swap the rock for some stuff out of Lowman's store. I'm sorry about that!
