  1. Well Iv'e always known the AquaC skimmers to be good skimmers, though these can be purchased new in box with warranty for $50 more though $100 isn't to bad I personally dread the hang on skimmers after my experience with a Prizm but I don't doubt this is an excellent skimmer hope it sells soon

  2. Hey I know it's a bit off the topic but I have always just used tap for my freshwater tank, Since I recently got an RO/DI unit for my salt I was wondering If I should be using that water in the freshwater tank, I think I recall hearing something about how it shouldn't be used (scratch) but just wanted to see what others had to say.

    Thanx

  3. ok so I have a 125 Gallon and for lighting I use 120-150 watts of PC Blues and 2 400 Watt 20K XM (3 months old) I generally have been transitioning it so the PC's come on @ 7:30 am around 11:00am the MH's come on (PC's shut off) for 8 hours and then the PC's come back on and go off @ 10:30. I beginning to think this is a bit to excessive lighting (scratch)

I'm getting Red Slim Now DOH! and I'm really not sure what the source is so I'm going to narrow it down by different solutions, I have tried the Red slime remover (I know this is just a temp) and that really didn't do much, So I'm now working on the next step:

I only have 2 Korilina 3's right now I will be adding a 3rd soon but for the meantime I put them on the back center wall facing opposite directions towards the glass, the red slime only seems to be appearing on the sides of the Tank not in the center, so I figure if I have the powerheads placed where they are they will force the current to the sides. If the red slime disappears and begins in the center where there is now less flow, problem solved add another powerhead; if not I will need to keep Troubleshooting.

I have done allot of research on cyno and got a pretty good idea on how to narrow it down from there but I cant seem to find anything on the lighting arrangement I have.

P.S I also have a Skimmer (off during that treatment Trial) as well I only feed the fish every other day once and only put enough in that will last all of them for about 5 minutes and have plenty of cleanup crew so i know I'm not overfeeding.

current Livestock, 2 True Perks, LTA, Decorated Rabbit, 2 Sailfin Tangs - They all seem to be happy. so any help with how long I should set the timers on both sets of lighting would be great

    Thanx

  5. Madreefer - thanks for the photos, they really are nice looking stars just not what I was looking for I suppose, the reason I intended to get the Linki's was because of the woman and if i want to keep my hobby, gots to keep her happy too (I'm sure all you know about that (wife) )

Fishmanmike - I'm interested in those clarkii clowns and their sebae ;)

Smann - That sounds great anything can help right now in the way of softies, I'll PM you around the 25th to see what you got

Thanks again Guys for all your help

  6. I appreciate all the Input, I did plan on adding the Foxface and watchman gobie next month :) I would definatly add the Clowns at the same Time and I like the Idea of adding Tangs at the same time, I'll keep and open mind about the yellow, its just my fiance saw one in Petco onetime (Dont worry I dont buy anything from them ) and she fell in love with it being how tiny it was but I have heard they are very prone to Ick, maybe a Blue instead.

In the meantime I was trying to get ideas for colorful leathers and zoas, not much for the brown ones, I like the ones with red, greens, blues, red, and orange. I know they can become a nusciance so I planned on watching them closely but if anyone is willing to sell some for a good deal PM me I plan on looking for more here in 2 weeks on my next check and it would be nice to meet new people, I have no trouble driving between Eugene and Portland. Also Interested in monti pieces (Green & Red).

    - "Madreefer" do you have A pic of one of those Stars? are they the ones that look like Brittle stars?

-"Smann" Ill hit you up when I eventually get into SPS, That will probably be 6-8 months+ but I'm sure you will still be here lol.

    Thanx Again guys!

  7. hello

So im just writing in to get a general idea as to what I should do now, My tank is fully cycled I have a 125 Gallon, 200+lbs Live rock running a bunch of blue PC's only for transitioning to the Dual 400Watt XM 20K MH. I just added a LTA and 2 True percs, The LTA is happy and footed himself within 1 day and later that day the clowns hosted him, I thought it would be cool at first but it is a bit annoying the clowns won't leave the LTA. I have 5 snails and 5 hermit crabs, This was just a starting off cleaning crew I know i need "Allot" more but when starting out a tank they dont exactly have all that much to eat.

My question is this, I know I need to take it slow and I'm concerned about the bioload (Please no critisism about adding the LTA from what I have read reguardless stages of tanks they work or they dont and mine seems to be happy and is eating as are the clowns) I would just like to know what I should add next and how I should add the fish, I was wanting to do soft corals at first, then from there moving into the polyps and zoa's from what i understand they are hardy and dont effect the bioload and good for starting a tank, but as for fish, this is the list i want to add eventually:

    1 Foxface Rabbit FIsh

    2 Clarkki Clowns

    2 Sailfin Tangs

    1 Yellow Tang

    1 Orange Spotted Watchman Goby

    2 Scooter blennies

    2 Cleaner shrimp

    1 Coral banded Shrimp

    2 Linki stars

I have already seen this done in the same exact tank that I have right before I got it except there were a few more fish than that, Should I just add these guys 1 at a time?, should should there be any order too it, and should I just add mabey 10 more clean up crew per fish? Just trying to get an action plan to shoot for, I understand this will take several months if not a year to move in this direction and i plan on taking it slow just want somewhat of a game plan.

P.S The Live rock came from garrett when he was taking down the shop in his garage, The Live sand came directly from his display tank, and Jason from coral reef gave me a bag of sand out of one of his tanks to dump into mine to help the cycling, and it has cycled for over a month now.

    Thanks for all your help

  8. hello

I have recently got into the hobby and am getting to the end of my cycling period and plan to add my clean up crew next week, currently I have a 125 Gallon tank with built in overflows, under the tank I have a 55 gallon long used as a sump, the pluming drains into the compartment with a protein skimmer, then through the baffles to eliminate bubbles, then through a chamber with live rock and greens and finally to the pump that sends it back to the main display. so respectively looks like this

    ---------------------

    |................|.........|

    |___|_____|__|___ |

    Pump LR BAF Skimmer

Now Ive noticed on a daily basis I'm losing a little over 2 Gallons of water, confused at first i checked for leaks there's none, as well I did the power down test, no overflowing So I'm assuming the water must be evaporating but at a very quick rate

I check the salinity every day and I generally have it sitting around 1.022 - 1.023 / after I check the salinity when the water is gone I get 1.024 so I then have to add more fresh water to the sump to get it back to the appropriate level and the salinity goes back down of course.

The most interesting thing though is that the water drop is primarily seen in the part where the pump is so i just fill that up to an inch above the divider and again the following day i will do the same.

I just cant see water evaporating at this quick of a rate. Any suggestions as to what i can do to fix it?

    thanx
