  1. Just brainstorming...

using a bigger fan, ventilating opening up the stand to let more heat escape, dropping in some RO ice cubes into the sump (works just fine on a nano/pico setup).

Turning off some of the pumps/powerheads might help as well, but then you have less flow. :(

  2. Hmm. I never thought of that aspect of ocellaris. I was actually amazed how long-lived they are. I got a pair in 1999 and one is still alive at my family's house in Illinois. The pair were separated by a thin sheet of plastic and they both became females and then there was murderous vengeance for all the bullying over the years.

  3. Noob,

I noticed you have a DIY setup and a reefkeeper lite. I am wondering if you have your LED drivers plugged into slots 1 and 4? These two ports have mechanical relays instead of solid state relays. I noticed something similar lightning storm thing happening last night on my tank after I added a reef keeper. Note: I had my drivers plugged into 3 and 4 yesterday.

After doing a bit of reading about it, it seems that LED drivers may require you to use ports 1 and 4 on your PC1 for the LEDs because they have a poor power factor. I am trying it out and seeing if it does it again tonight. I am curious if this will solve the issue.

Now I just need to find another port to stick my top off plug onto. (scratch)

There was no "lightning storm" in my tank last night so I think this was indeed the problem. I guess now I will see if it works long-term.

  5. I have a 44mm diamond hole saw for a standard 1" bulkhead and would be willing to help out. Is the tank empty? The reason I ask is that some people get the wild idea to drill the tank when it is full. What could possibly go wrong?

  6. You might be able to save your chisel if it is worth it. A good sharpening will get it back to spec. I have chiseled things that weren't wood with my wood chisels and put them to a sharpening stone afterwards and you wouldn't know the difference. These days I use a large flat head screwdriver. I just can't get around to buying a cold chisel for some reason.

  7. I am a big fan of Trochus snails as well. But, whenever I get Astrea snails, most of them become murder victims, and the hermits always leave one witness behind for some reason. I also have a watchman goby that does an excellent job sifting sand, but he does not play well with others. He also occasionally redecorates the tank and carries hermits, snails and smaller pieces of rubble around in his mouth.
