  1. shouldn't be much of a difference except price. Most likely your "depot" one wont live up to the hype with the whole better power and so on, but it will save you money. Just make sure it actually fits your laptop. Look at it this way, if it only costs you a third or even half of what your actual manufacturer wants then you can buy 2 or 3 replacements for the same cost as the one from Dell or whoever. I would Google the company and see what complaints there are out there. They might be known for fighting warranty work and always blaming user error which violates warranty or something. Just look into them BEFORE you purchase. One of the benefits of buying from say BMW for my car parts is I know they have a rep to uphold. Same with computer parts. for the most part anyway. You get the idea.

  2. Drain the tank' date=' dump the sand, clean the tank really good with vinegar, rinse an then let soak in vinegar solution for 24 hours, while that is soaking boil the rock and let it dry, then just recycle the tank.[/quote']

That seems a bit excessive no? I mean yes you will definitely get peace of mind....but then you are recycling all over again and potentially killing anything that is left in that tank should there be the whole amonia and nitrate spikes that typically occur in cycling....

for the hair alge try a wire brush

    works well

You need to remove the rocks from the tank first and then use the brush.

    agreed

You have to find out the source first: where they feed.

Then you can get rid of hair algae with hydrogen peroxide 3% (dip and also treating the full tank). As for aiptasia there are many ways.

How diligent are you with water change with this tank?

Works well will expand on aptasia in a second.....

I added a Phosphate reactor & a Seahare. So far it's keeping away' date='oh & cut back on feeding also:D[/quote']

Wire brush is a good way to remove hair algae....Grassi also pointed out the Hydrogen peroxide method which also is a good solution. Racefan already mentioned the Seahare which again is a good solution for the hair algae....although it will most likely die shortly after.

Peppermint Shrimp will eat the aptasia....as will a CBB but I have had horrible....again I say horrible luck with them. I would mention a Klines but they have proven to be coral nippers. Aptasia control works well as does Kalk (which is much cheaper and just as effective if not more so) for the aptasia. Quick note here.....if you do the Kalk thing....which is what I do now....turn off your Korellia's during the time you are attacking the aptasia's....Kalk kills EVERYTHING it touches....coral wise at least. If you have Vortech put it on feed mode. Make sure you mix it to a paste....add powder then water and then more of the powder or water depending on consistency.

One quick note on the wire brush concept here that was pointed out in another thread by Noobtosalt is that the wire brush may leave fragments in or on your rocks that you are NOT going to want in your tank. So either pay very close attention to get all of that out or just skip the wire brush idea altogether.

All of these are going to require some water changes....except the Seahare....until it dies then you need water changes again.....possibly that is.

  3. I have a few rocks you can have. I don't know if they like Mojano's as well but if so I have a few of those too....and you will get some freebie Tyree Tri Color acro with it. I am just waiting for mojano's to kill it anyway.

  4. This was taken during our visit in Cali....Dexter who is 20 months found another toddler just older than 2....the rest continued throughout the day and made quite a few patents in the hospital happy

Gets cute around 20 seconds or so.

Mind you they never met before....this was pretty much their first encounter...they actually saw eachother just around the corner about a minute before this was taken.

  5. I may be wrong and please correct me if I'm wrong but they will eccape if they can reach there arm/leg up and reach a ledge or top. They will investigate' date=' but if they cant feel anything, or anyware to go they find something else to do. If you have the water to the top of the tank, they reach out and feel arround, get curious and go take a look. They are like toddlers, you shut a door thats whare they want to go, if they can reach it they will want to play with it.[/quote']

that is my belief as well. But when I expressed it to Isaac it was shot down by both him and.....well nevermind.

  6. i bet they could get them' date=' i want a octopus bad but don't know how to seal my tank[/quote']

and that is the magic right there. You could hit up Isaac....I think it was Isaac(scratch)....recently posted up an octopus that he had or got and was confident that it wouldn't escape. Maybe see what he is doing or did.

  7. Fast but not recommended by many.....I was told when I first got into reefing that there are "myths" about setting up tanks and how long your cycle period has to be. Now I don't know if they are myth's or not, but my experiences has led me to believe that they are. Trust what you think is right.

You do want to drop those nitrates though. And yes I waited....about a week on my initial set up. But when I moved from So Cal to here I did all new water....fresh spin up...and had tank set within 2 hours....never lost a coral or fish from the move.....well that isn't totally accurate....my Xenia didn't make it. But it was gone when I first opened the cooler to start adding my corals.
