  1. Up for sale I have a natural finish pine hood that will fit any 48"X18" tank. It is about 8-9 inches deep. Would be great for a DIY VHO, T-5 or CF lighting or take the top off for a pendant type to keep the blue light from flooding your room. Not deep enough for MH, that is why I am selling it. This could easily be painted to work with your decor. I am thinking $20 OBO. Give me a call I need this gone.

  2. Corey,

You should come over and trade me :)

    I have inverts...lol

I'm trying to thin out my tank a little, so I was hoping to sell these. I do need to check out your new set-up though. And who knows, I would probably find something to trade for. Are you going to be around today?

  3. Ill be In shasta on a house boat for the next 5 days!!!

Then ill be setting up the new tank, but I should be able to do it sometime next week!

sorry I have been so hit and miss kinda busy planning for the trip!

    No problem. Enjoy!

  4. I have 3 of frags of People Eaters, 1 greenbay packer? zoos, and two candycane coral frags. I have a neon green finger leather a couple of kenya tree, some pompom xenia and silver xenia. I could also spare some GSP.

    $5ea on the frags

Kenya tree and silver xenia are free.

I would consider some trades as well. But I need to get rid of some of this stuff so I have room.

  5. I would be interested in seeing one of these first hand. The link says they have the same spread as MH (one every two feet). They are saying these will replace 175w MH. I would reason this is due to the depth they will reach. My tank is 24" deep and I run 400w so these would not be a fit for me. I wonder if it is a limitation of the LED's as a whole or do they have the ability to get the penetration required for deeper tanks.

On the financial side they claim these hold 70% of original light at 50,000hrs. By my calculations I would not have to buy bulbs for 11 years( at 12hrs a day). $370 for 11 years breaks down to about $34 a year. That is less than half the cost of most MH bulbs for those of us replacing bulbs on a yearly basis. Then you still have to factor in the fact that it uses 1/4 the electricity and you don't have to buy and replace expensive ballasts.

If I can get one of these that will work in a deeper tank I may have to give them a try.

  6. I would highly suggest you cut back to a total of 12 hours lighting at the most. You may want to cut back to ten or even 8 until you get the algea problem solved. My t-5 actinics come on at 9am and shut off at 9pm. My MH's come on at 10am and go off at 8pm. So my actinics are on for one hour before my halides come and stay on for one hour after my halides go out with a total of 12 hours of lighting.

If you are using frozen foods it is best to thaw them and dump off the excess moisture as it adds nutrients that will not be consumed by your fish but will help the algea to flourish.

Doing these things to my tank has helped me. I hope this help you.

  7. I am going to agree with the ones who suggested getting rid of the eel. They are not the best choice for reef aquariums. If you do decide to get a new tank I would go with an all glass. They are less expensive and easier to clean. The color won't be as true but you will not have the problem with scratching. You might want to look at replacing the caulerpa with cheato too. I don't have the problems with the cheato taking root in my aquarium like the caulerpa does. It is more free floating. JMO.

    Welcome and happy reefing.

  8. Who, what, where, when, and why?

I certainly see alot of these questions being asked as of late. This hobby is a complicated one and requires these questions to be asked quite often. Usually it is not of a person that is in the hobby and on our boards. I have not met you CA2OR. I like to see people for what they are and I have a pretty good talent at reading people. Most of us do which is why there has been so much discussion around your interactions with the members of this board. It seems that either you are a very simple book to read or you are infinately harder than most expect. Either way, there are many things that we all must try and achieve in life in order to become respected and content with ourselves as a person.

Keep it simple, keep it honest, and do things that feel like they are the right things to do. You will be content and respected for this.

Good to see that education isn't going to waste.:D
