  1. As the title says I'm in need on an EB8. Turns out heater issues were a precursor to a larger problem. Noticed this morning that half my pumps are not running. Unfortunately this EB8 also powers my heater bank and skimmer.

Does anyone have one lying around they are willing to sell? I need one asap!

What's weird is I checked the data log and found a spike in the amp consumption. Tank always runs a steady 4.1 amp, the spike was 11.8 amps! I have no idea what could have caused it

  2. Go figure. I am in the roofing industry and when one of the guys says " looks like it might rain today" it inevitably does. Now I stumble upon your thread and a day later I am awaken by my phone chiming alarms from the apex that I'm below the tolerated temperature. At 3:00 am I wake up and investigate to find two of my three hearters are failing. I've had no issues for over 4 years thanks to you.

Some things should be kept silent. Lol.

Thanks. Did you find them in piles of macroalgae high on the beach? Or the still-wet macro in tidepools?

I've read recommendations to do a long freshwater rinse before feeding them. I'm skeptical it matters (our tanks are already full of bacterial communities, it seems unlikely adding one more bug from cold waters would make any difference) but seems like a wise precaution just in case.

In tide pools. It's actually at Lincoln beach just north of fogarty creek. There is a high cliff with pools that are exposed all of the time. I could try to find it on a map if you'd like.

  4. I've collected them down near Beverly beach before and boy do those ones get giant compared to those we grow in our refigum. Problem is I've always collect them in a cup or the like and they are all dead before I'm home several hours later. However like the Clark said I have always been hesitant on importing something undesirable.

These power converters are just converting AC to 24v DC.  If you have a multimeter, check if the output is still 24V DC.  It's pretty rare that the power converter would go bad unless they are underrated for the device they are powering.  For example if the max output is 3A at 24V (72W) and the pump draws 90W, then over time the power converter will get burn out.

The controller and pump are a different story.

Indeed. Tried the new pumps on the old converters and low and behold they work. Pumps all along.

I'd want it In my sump. how much are you looking of it?

I'd do $100 on the 120 and $140 on the 180. Both would need a pump. I have both mag drive pumps in a #5 and # 7 that I could let go for 40 and 50 respectively.

No problem Mike.  That does seem like quite a few failures, so if you keep going through power supplies perhaps the controller or the pump has issues.

They run from my apex so if it continues I'll replace the pumps.
