  1. There is nothing meant by the member / non-member chat areas. It was only a thought of a perk to be a member or become a member and to have multiple rooms.

Functionality to show who is in chat is still in development. Hoping this can happen at some point in the near future.

  2. We have made some progress. Chat is now back. You can open chat by clicking on the Chat button just under the header.

There are two public chat rooms, "The Public Fish Tank" and "Emergency Room".

"The Public Fish Tank" is a room for everyone to pop in and discuss anything.

"Emergency Room" is a room open for people to talk live about issues with their tanks.

There are two private rooms, "Members Sump" and "Board Room".

"Members Sump" is a PNWMAS Members Only area.

"Board Room" is for PNWMAS Officers and BOD Members to talk shop.

  3. Ok - putting the "hack" aside that was pointed out on vBulletin's site. We can change the titles (RANK) to what ever we want (e.g. instead of Whale, we can call it Sea Cow -- hahaha doesn't help the comment made earlier in the post). However, it is based on the number of posts regardless. With this it will not matter if you are a PNWMAS member or not -- in other words your rank title is based on number of posts whether you are a paid member or not (I will double check this to make sure this comment is correct, but I believe it is). To change this is easy, I just need a new list.

Now, to change the Ranks based on whether you are a paid member, or not, I am not sure if it possible even with the hack. I will have to research further.

I am leary of applying mods/hacks/alterations to the forum for items like this as they are not really a necessity. Don't get me wrong, because I understand and know what you are saying. I just have to look at the functionality of the site first and ask myself, what will the affect of adding a mod to the site be? Will it be a problem everytime we upgrade? If yes, what is the benefit of such a mod? You get the point.

This site is about the members, contributors and sponsors and I want to do what ever it takes to make as many people happy as possible, but I also have to look at the site being up and funtional making people happier than rank titles.

  4. This problem is unfortunate, but if you show detail to the board/IT Staff about the educational benefit and that PNWMAS also works with teachers (Tanks for Teachers) to show that we are a non-profit dontaing organization helping education, they should be good with allowing the site.

  5. Just came on and "wow this is cool" new user page. keep up the good work!. Rob I did not keep up on the threads during your move were you able to move your tanks or are you starting over?

Thanks. We had over 600 gallons of tanks and now are in a condo with much less space. So, we are going to do a couple 30g nano's. Our house is still on the market in Pennsylvania, so we are waiting for that to sell to set them up. I am got the itch bad.

  6. You will notice that the front page(s) of the site have been integrated into the forum and work hand in hand with the forum. There is still more work to do, but I wanted to get this much up so that some of the out dated material in the old part of the site was no longer used. Please post any problems you encounter here.

  7. Hi Rob,

You probably already know this but just in case... for some reason, the home page does not display properly on either Safari or Firefox on my mac although it works perfectly using Explorer on my PC. The left hand nav shows up on the middle of the page and the welcome message and graphics are pushed below it. (scratch) This happens no matter what the window size. Not sure if it is specific to my machine or not (some odd display setting?) but thought I would give you a heads up. All the other pages seem to display just fine and this was happening prior to the forum maintenance.

Thanks for all the great work you are doing with this!

    Sean

The front page and associated pages are still part of the old site and will be integrated with the new look in time. It appears that they were created with a program that supports IE based HTML only, so I am not surprised that they have formatting conflicts with those other browsers. Once the new front page gets integrated with the new forum look, you should be ok. Until then, I would recommend using IE.

    Thanks for your patience.

  8. Will you be adding more to the other half of the banner?

Brandy -- I want to do something larger, but I am still going to be limited. My first focus is to get the site completely integrated and have one look throughout. That part is simply cosmetic and can be addressed later, kind of. There is a complicated reason, which is this site was built to be as wide as everyone's screen. Every computer is different, so that width varies and does limit what you can do with the right side when using the "full width" look. The compromise is to have a "fixed width" website where the width is always a certain size leaving borders on each side. This constrains the forum, but gives you the flexibility of doing anything and everything you want within the width of the site. If this doesn't make sense, let me know and I can show with pictures a little clearer.

  9. Just wondering about signatures. Can we easily post image mapping in the signatures to our thread like they do on nanoreef.com.

    Thanks for your feedback.

After I get everything completed with this phase, I will look into this and see what is involved. Can't promise anything, but I will look into it.

First, I need to integrate the front page data into the new look.
