  1. I have two Engineer Gobies and for the last 2 years they have grown and done wonderful. They both stay hidden in the rocks unless its feeding time. Last night the smaller of the two was swimming around. This is very abnormal so I have observed the fish for the last 24 hours.

When the smaller goby tries to enter the rocks the lager one nips at him / her. Does anyone know what might cause this behavior.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

  2. Good day all,

I have a few questions regarding a Peacock Mantis.

    1. What is the optimal tank size? I know many say 10 gallon will do but is this really enough room for one to move around in?

    2. How deep should the sand bed be?

    3. Acrylic or glass? I have read so many saying glass will be fine and I have read so many that say DONT do it. What are your experiences?

4 Lastly, does anyone know of any good books or publications about these animals and their habitat?

Thanks in advance for your input

  3. bswe22,

What boundaries are you looking to stay in and what price point per month. I know several people that have rental properties I can check with them to see what they might have available. If you want just PM me and I can get back to you in the next few days.

  4. Crap you had too... I'm sure I'll get home today and my wife is going to say "Hun guess what I want now...." (threaten)

This coral is stunning thanks for sharing.

  5. Danik I would agree for the most part. Reef165 stated that he lives just outside of Troutdale. Living on that side of town for many years myself the one thing you can always count is the cold wind. Troutdale and the surrounding towns seem to always get hit with high winds due to the Columbia Gorge being right there. I personally think that this would be a great idea for someone on that side of town however being on the Westside now I agree with you. Winds are not steady enough to justify setting something like this up at least not wind energy.

If nothing else becomes of this theory at lease we have the reefing community thinking outside the box to support our ever demanding power needs. Also if you end up going forward with this project please start a build thread I am most interested.

  6. wow is all I can say.. and laying the fish out there on the road to see the amount of damage amazes me.. but who gets to go back and collect the dead fish off the road? hmmm

Think they need to put a limit on how many fish of each type can be collected by collectors to reduce the damage when there is an equipment failure. But to be mad, angry, or whatever is to get out of this hobby. Everyone that has a tank at home contributes to the ocean's well being.

Basically put restrictions or limitations on collectors as they do with fishermen. Until that happens, it'll be disaster after disaster.

I agree totally. However I'm sure that an event like this will prompt changes in the current laws. I just hope that the changes are well thought out, and violators will be prosecuted to the fullest.

I apologize if I’m coming across strong or in the wrong way. It just horrifies me to see so many dead fish.

I really hope the person(s) get caught and are prosecuted to the fullest.

I am however glad that the authorities where notified and actions are being taken. It’s just sad that all those fished died like this, and for what.

  8. On the anemone it should come back out within a week or so if it's hidden. This isn't an absolute as I know one person who had one reappear many months after it disappeared. (If it's around the back where it can get light still then it could stay hidden) I'm a bit concerned though with the color mentioned. Rose Bubble Tip anemones often turn bright pink when they unhealthy as they start losing the algae that helps to keep them fed. This is true of most corals that are turning pale or white (mix the pale white with the red of the RBTA and you end up with a pink color).

That said we really need more information to determine if there are others issues causing problems. While some corals are ultra sensative to water flow most will not be effected very fast by changes so I suspect there may be other problems. Do you know what the water parameters are? Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, PH, Alkalinity, Calcium, Salinity, Temperatures. If any of these have had some drastic changes (quite possible as you mentioned the sump being replaced) then they could be causing the problems.

+1. Ours RBTA only hid for a week or so then we saw him in the back of the tank. He was there for a few more days and at some point we woke up and there he/she was up front again stinging everything it could.

  9. Welcome,

It might not be all that bad. The RBTA might have just moved and hid for a few days. If you disturb them or change their water-flow they tend to move or hide. I have done the same and ended up with 2+ RBTA after changing a water-flow.

As for the wife I cant help you there, but I wish you the best of luck (wife)
