This is a thriving tank and can easily be upgraded to a larger tank as the equipment is rated for a much larger tank. My system has kept 0 nitrates and phosphates and has always seen RO water. Feel free to browse my pics here...

  2. My bubble coral is outgrowing my tank. I would like to sell it cheap. It's an x-large and very healthy. As it sits now it is about 6" tall and 8" wide in a crunched up spot. Get it into an open area and I'm sure it would expand much larger. I'm in the Bend area and will only let it go via pick up. I also have some frags and some galaxea I'd like to get out of the .

Basically show up with some specimen bags and a little cash (or trade for zoas) and leave with quite a goodie bag(s).

    Send me a pm.

  3. With the blessing of the PNWMAS pres. (thanks again Kris) I am pleased to announce a new club in the Central Oregon area. The Central Oregon Reef Alliance is a free club that welcomes enthusiasts from all walks of the hobby. Yes, even freshwater enthusiasts (this is simply a conversion tactic(laugh)). As everyone in the Central Oregon area may know, we "lack" in the support dept. Even as far as LFS's. I consider there only to be 1. (Thanks John). With this club I/we look forward to making C.O. a place that the enthusiast can network. Looking forward to working alongside PNWMAS. If you are interested please follow the link below, send me a PM here, reply here or, send me an e-mail. Look forward to hearing from you.

  4. Hey folks,

The question of the day is... two parts...

    1. What parameters to you routinely test for? Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium.

    2. How often? Really depends on the alk reading. If this seems to change or, won't stabilize I go to magnesium.

    3. What brand of test kit do you like for each test? (I lied about the two parts...)

    Scott

    My parameters are as follows.

    SG 1.025

    Temp. 82 deg.

    Ca-450

    Mg-1440 Parameters edited 11/04

    Kh-9

    PH 8.3

    Nh3-0

    No2-0

    No3-0

    Po4-0

  5. Two words...lights out!

This is great advice. Works really well and often overlooked. Not to be used for "putting on a bandaid" though. There are many things that need to be looked into as the cause and source. Here's some good reading on "bubble algae". I currently have Ventricaria ventricosa (I think it's also known as sea pearl). I have found that the best way to control it is to manually remove it (without popping). For valonia and smaller types, a siphon tube works well to suck them out with water changes. Also helps remove spores if popped while you are removing them.

  6. I had surgery and have been out of it for a few weeks. In that time' date=' my tank has started to fall victim to a lot of hair and bubble algae. Last I checked there were a couple of emerald crabs in there but they don't seem to touch any of it. How do I get rid of all of this?[/quote']

There are actually a few types of bubble algae. Some aren't enticing to emerald crabs. Can you describe the type you have?

  7. What is the concern with copper used in tanks, or tanks with live rock? (scratch) What is the concern? (scratch) Can the rock be used ? (scratch) Can you do anything to change the effect that the copper has done to the tank or the live rock? (scratch)(scratch)(scratch)

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin (laugh)

It kills inverts(small and big). Hard to get out of our systems. There are test kits available. Part of the reason caution should be taken with adding water to your tank(with new fish/corals). Alot of stores(unless you have good LFS's) will use copper for treating. There are products available, but, don't know about the results. I have been fortunate not having a copper problem.

  8. I've got a 55 gallon reef with a cpr 194 sump with integrated skimmer. I have removed the bio-balls and replaced with LR. I do not use any chemical/mechanical filters(unless you want to count my skimmer as mech.) I have my sump sitting inside of a 20l tank flowing out through bulk-head into my fuge. I don't add supplementation. I use water changes with, IO's Reef Crystals, to replenish used up goodies. I keep my evaporation supplied with an aqualifter on an airline valve dripping once every 3 seconds to keep a little over one gallon/24 hours at bay. I use an odysea mh lighting set-up. Fish list: Small Yellow tang, six-line, maroon clown, 3 blue/green chromis, combtooth or sailfin blenny(can't remember which), green mandarin dragonet, firefish, Coral Banded Shrimp, Cleaner Shrimp, conch, regular clean-up crew criteria. Corals: Blastomussa, p. xenia, hammer, frogspawn, lots o' zoas(some palys), buttons, cloves, yellows, gsp's, kenya, shrooms, trumpets, galaxea, green birds nest, birds nest.

My current parameters are: Temp. 81, sg. 1.026, mg 1400, Ca 420, kh 11.5. I don't test for the usuall nitrates, phosphates, etc... I don't have problems in that area and will only test if a problem may arise.

    I just joined pnwmas.

  9. Oh YEAH !!!!!! haha ALL the time !!! I have a bad addiction to that store.

Got the clam at the top yesterday...have no idea why it photographed blue because it's a gorgeous electric green...go figure lol. In fact everything in this photo is from Oasis...green BN, 'shroom, bam bams, green zoas, and both clams a blue maxima and green crocea.

    008.jpg

I remember that clam. If you looked through the side of his frag tank it would be green. From the top all blue like it shows in your picture.

  10. Tank is only a 30 gallon cube with about a 10 to 15 gallon sump. Am really just looking for the pods as I do not have alot of room for a big fuge. Plus I run carbon and also a phosban reactor to so that helps. So I guess I really just would like to produce the pods for my fish to snack on and such but reall I guess just to try one and see what happens.

Try using a pod pile. A simple pile of larger rubble/crushed coral in sump or, DT where you can hide small pieces of food for pods to eat. This creates a small safe haven for them to cruise around without predation from fish. Depending on inverts you may have to try something that will work for you. Different placement of pile, smaller or larger rubble etc.. trying to keep snails/hermits from tearing into it. Just an idea.
