  1. I hear you there. Deep dems are the way to go. Trust me though Curtis. This would be as big as you would want to go unless you want to go diving to clean the tank or reach anything in the center even with your head submerged. It is much bigger in person then it looks in the pics. You will definately have to get me in on your big build once you guys get a house :)

I am aware of the difficulties involved in keeping a tank that big. I want it to be similar to Steve Weist's tank, except a little bigger. I know that I will most likely have to walk into the tank to get toward the middle...its a dream...maybe it will become a reality. Lets hope Cora gets a good job once she's done with her physical therapy PhD...cuz lord knows i only contribute so much without an eduction. You will be in on the build...I will post a thread, maybe you can come vacation in Idaho and help me put it in. (whistle)

I cant believe this is around still. $900, thats crazy talk. Materials alone for my new frag tanks was $200 each.....and they are small compared to this monster.

  2. Your fish does look a little thin. You can see it around the face, and the dorsal/pectoral fins. I would just feed it a variety. Mine was eating like a horse, whatever I threw in the tank. But, it had sat in the LFS for 6 months, due to it's high price and the bad economy.

  3. Man, that is a sweet tank. I really feel like it isn't big enough though. After getting the deep dimension bug I think that I am going to make my next tank a 72x72x36. I just have to wait till Cora is done with school and we buy a house...so kindof the same deal as you have, not enough room. Good luck, free bump.

  4. Hey guys, here's my newest edition to my tank. guess what trigger this is (clap)

Nice! Did you get my sargassum? I love that fish, cant wait till I get my new one.

Eric, a lot of the color depends on the lighting. The brighter the light the brighter the fish. They had it under standard shop flourescents at the store and it looked pretty good, but under the 400w halides it looked amazing.

  5. That is a really beautiful sargassum! Best looking trigger i've ever seen...I'm sorry for your loss. May I ask how he died? Also' date=' where did you get him from?[/quote']

He jumped out of my QT tank. I was really upset. He had 2 more days before he went back into the display after 8 weeks of QT for ick treatment. I just ordered another from Birdworld here in Salt Lake. That is were I got the last one, and he said that they are hard to come by, but he will order me another as soon as he gets one on the list.

  6. Wow, last night was an amazing game. We had a couple friends over that went to undergrad at Arizona, it made for a fun, in-your-face evening. I had a blast, that was so much fun to watch....a little sloppy at times, but fun to watch. How about that field goal???

  7. figured out the problem. it was the controller. the first plug is wacked out and not working properly. when i opened the ballast i unplugged them, and when i plugged them back in i guess i switched plugs. that is why the one firing changed. i guess i will be contacting neptune to see why this dc8 is shorting out.

    thanks for the help everyone.

  8. Radium 20k, 2 months old. Lumenmax reflectors, about 4 months old.

It is hardwired the whole way, no plugs all the way from the socket to the internals of the ballast. I opened the ballast just to look, and everything looked fine. Put it back together and now the other bulb is firing, and the one that was firing before, is no longer firing...this has to by symptoms for something...

  9. All connections are good. It is wired strait from the socket to the ballast in the basement (where it is hardwired inside of the case).

FYI, this is a PFO pulse start ballast.

  10. So my landlord came over today to drop off some stuff and I asked her if she wanted to see the tank. She came in and I went downstairs to turn on the lights and only one was on.

Then after she left I went downstairs and made sure the controller was in the right state, and that the ballast was on. The ballast makes the normal humming noise for each bulb, but I am getting no light.

The bulbs are about 2 months old, but I tried another anyways, and nothing. The ballast is still humming, but nothing is coming out.

  11. I agree with you garrett. With a mass food like mine, some corals get what they need, sometimes they dont. I try to gear mine toward everything and have a TON of 10-100 micron foods, not to mention what gets ground up in the blender. I do see sps sometimes trying to choke down a chuck of squid or something, makes me laugh. But hey, if they get nutrients from it externally (not sure if they do or not) then more power to them. I usually desolve it in a cup of water, then spot feed the LPS with the stuff that stick to the bottom, and spot feed the SPS the smaller particle stuff that floats around. I did a 5g bucket full of it last time, next time I will probably do 20 gallons, and start having some of the LFS sell it.

  12. I feed my own homemade blend, which I am now producing in larger quantities and selling over here it Utah. You could do something similar, but realize that it gets messy, stinky, you have to have a freezer to put food in while you are working on it, and it takes time.

    Here's my ingredients:

    Mysis Shrimp

    Chopped Krill

    Rotifers

    Oyster Eggs

    Cyclopeze

    Brine Shrimp

    Selco Vitamins and Ammino Acids

    Green Nori

    Red Nori

    Brown Nori

Fish Roe (usually salmon-we'll see whats available inland)

    Sea Urchin

    Mussels

    Clams

    Oysters

    Whole Shrimp

    Eggplant Peels

    Garlic

    Golden Pearls

    Athrospira Algae

    Daphnia

    Mini Mysis

    Silversides (chopped)

    Plankton Frozen Food

    Squid

I take all prepared food and just let it desolve in some RO water, then I add all of the seafood, which is raw, and just keep blending, not pureeing, but blending till there are all size bits. Add it to the food and put it back in the freezer. I keep doing this until I get them all added, and then mix it all real well and put it in ziplock freezer bags.

  13. I tried the bottle and after about 6 hours they still wouldn't go near it. I ended up pulling a couple rocks, and caught one of the two. the other is going to endure the treatment...i hope. I just added the treatment and half hour later he is still doing good.
