  1. With the advent of getting a larger tank, I have a few new problems. The tank came with a sump, but it is kinda small. Actually really small, hard to fit what I needed to in there, and that is with out a refugium.

I am going to build my sump in a larger tank. But this brings to mind this question.

How much of my skimmer can be under water? It is a PCI RS1000 I think.

  2. When I bought my tank, unbeknownst to me, there was a grounding wire in with all the stuff. I remember reading something years ago about how you should keep a grounding wire in a tank to remove stray voltage. Is this still a good idea? Or has technology fixed that issue?

  3. jdy,

We wont run you off, you just have to "buy our friendship" with discounts. Just kidding. I have nothing against the people who work for petco. In fact it is great that someone there actually knows about fish.

  4. My wife really wants to get a Chocolate Chip Star. Are they reef safe? What do they eat?

Also, my wife wants a clam. I know that they generally get HUGE. Are there any speices/kinds that stay small, yet are pretty like the gigas ones?

  5. First post after lurking for so long (scary)

The sale starts in september, I don't remember the exact date, I can find this out though.

I believe it will be identical to last years sale, AGA tanks up to 55G and specific Oceanic tanks, also can find this out too as well.

What exactly was last years sale on aga tanks? $1 a gallon?

  6. Dennis,

I completely understand what you mean.

When I met my wife I had 16 FW tanks. We had only known each other like 2 weeks, and I told her, "If you ever make me choose between fish and you, you will loose." Long story short.... She learned to like my hobby.

  7. Hey everyone,

I inhereted some fish, but I have a problem.

The water they are used to is measuring 1.032 on BOTH my hydrometers. Since it on both of them I am inclined to beleive it is correct.

    The fish are the following:

    1 Lemonpeal Angel

1 HUGE Marron Clown (Assumedly female, due to size)

    2 green Chromis

I need to lower the salinity of the water they are in. How slowly should I do it? What should I lower it to?

  8. 1/8th inch sould be fine. That is what I used in FW applications from lids to aquascaping. Strong enough not to break under its own weight, and thin enough to be workable.

  9. Finally got most of everything set up.

Here is a brief list of what I know I got. Probably got more just haven't found it yet.

    90 gallon tank.

    Stand

Canopy (Will have to retrofit lights into it, previosly fishonly tank)

    Overflow box

    Sump

    Lids for tank

    LARGE Maroon Clown

Lemon Peel Angel (Yes a real one)

    2 green chromis

    About 100 pounds of sand

3 hermit crabs (probably more only saw three)

100 or so pounds of live rock

Bunches of supplies like test kits, etc.

And I paid about the same as a 55 would have cost at an LFS or bigbox.

  10. Hey all,

As some of you know my 55 got a leak and I had to tear it down before it really got set up.

Today, my wife bought me a 90 gallon complete setup SW/Reef tank that has already been cycled. I am on my way to pick up as soon as I am done typing this.

    Pics to follow.

  11. I started out with a 20 gallon long tank. I got my inspiration from the tank in the photo below. (I can't remember where I found this picture, and tis not mine.)

My skimmer didn't quite fit across the short part of the 20 long, so I had to be creative. I put it going the other way, and put the "de-bubbling baffles" next to the skimmer on the short side of the tank.

Can't find the other picture I took, but when I find it, I will post it.
