  1. Jay,

Just take everything out and get it(whistle) Goodluck with this and hopefully you find a way.

Yea right...youve seen my tank...that would be quite the task not to mention I dont like to disturbe the rocks. I realize you were sarcastic scott

I will try the nylon trick. The bad thing is I had this worm once and put it back in thinking it would be a benificeal invert to help the cleanup crew.

  2. You can try bridal veil material on a string with a shrimp in the middle. But this works best for a lot of small ones and I'm not sure how it will work on one big one.

It might be easiest to remove the rock it is in.

Yea....any trap that uses a piece of shrimp or fish for bait would quickly be eaten by any number of fish or starfish.

I will try and see if I can isolate what rock he is useing. I havent seen him in a few weeks but the bristles stuck in my fish tell me he comes out at night to raise cain with my tang.

  3. I have a huge worm in my aquarium and I have seen it cleaning zooz off my rock. Its so big I have seen it stretch all the way from under the sand to the top of my highest rock. At least 8 inches and as big around as your small finger.

I honestly think it killed my coral beauty by stinging it and leaving spines.bristles. I have seen 30 or 40 bristles all over my tangs tail so I know he has been swatting at it. He always looks sick the day after I see the stickers on his tail but he gets better in 2 days. My coral beauty was not so lucky as he passed away about a month ago. How do I get this sucker?

  5. I just decided that I don't have the power for 2x400W in my apartment. So I need to figure out a solution to move to 2x250. I have a 400w ballast and a nice new reflector as well. you know anyone w/ a dual 250 that they want to trade away? I figure I'll go see Nick after the holiday and see if we can work somthing out' date=' once I find a solution I'd be interested in grabbing them as a temporary solution (they are kinda old). I Kinda broke the bank by exploding the brace on my bowfront and having to make an emergency tank purchase.[/quote'] Bummer on the expoding tank brace...

I live in vancouver and would take the bulbs. I have a few good frags I will trade you for them. Mushrooms and bird nests frags. I have a purple cap and will make a hand size piece of orange cap for you. Also have a sunset millipora I can frag. If Bitricker really needs the bulbs for his setup and can make you a deal its no biggy to me as I just got new bulbs.....but if you havent traded to him on your way back to longview....I am on the way home here in Vancouver just off of I-5 a few miles. PM me if you are intrested...so I see you want to trade

  6. If you want to attract new people to the forum you could make this website equally balanced with freshwater sections. If you look at this site it uses the same v bullitin systen as we do. Also look at their personal blogs section how its setup. Its like each user can have his own section....like the general section that we have but I can name it Jays blog and have seperate threads. Look here: http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/member-blogs/

I see they have lots of people on their site at all times and mabey that is because they cater to freshwater as well as marine?...I dunno its just a thought. I just joined their site and it looks busy busy busy. I am Jay_S there by the way for ne1 who wants to know.

  7. Got Zooz....nice stuff. I need to getmore. I wish my tank was bigger. I meen its big at 120 gallon but its a walk around tank as a room divider and is wide. Its only 48 inches long so not much room on each side....especially with the center overflow takeing up so much room. I have been contemplating getting a new longer custom tank made for the room devider. I just cant justify spending the moneys for it when this one is ok. Someday if I see one that will work I may splurge for it. I just wish I had more room for corals and bigger fish. You have some awesome corals and it doesnt look crowded either. My anemone seems like it takes up half the tank......at least one side anyway.

  8. I don't knock anyone for thier opinions....you may have had different experiences with them than I have....or he may like you more than he does me....I never really felt that he liked me very much. I will say, he had 3 other people in there working and we were the only customers. I actually watched another couple walk in just before we left....then saw them as SWF shortly after we got there too.

I typically don't flame anyone....much less sponsors....but I do not feel that us as customers should ever be talked to the way we were.

I cant dissagree with that. He should have let you talk with your wife. He prolly should have just said he could not get a price for that tank now....can I intrest you in this one here that I have a price for....;)
  9. Mabey if the stuff was on consighnment but did not have a price yet he should have said it was not for sale yet untill he and the owner had worked out a price. Im sure if it was one of his new tanks it would have been priced and it would have not been a problem to list the price. Mabey he was understaffed that day. I just wanted to come to Woodys defense here because he has really helped me when I needed help and was in a bind. Lending me pumps and barrels and even one of his employees when I had a problem at my house. For the most part they do what they can for people and has lots of nice corals and inverts and I feel is a valuable part of Portlands great LFS selection. We have many here in the area and I feel blessed. Each has their own flavor and I am for the most part happy with them all. I have had the guys at Patricks store help me also with modding my skimmer pump. Very good customer service here also....above and beyond. I get to Rose City now and again also but being in Vancouver Fantaseas ans Seahorse I use for just about everything because they are close. Bottom line IMO is that they both do the best they can the best they know how. You will never make everyone happy this we all know right. Not trying to start a who is better discussion...thats not my point. I like the small shops and big shops. I just think its...... Christmas.....the lfs bussiness is tough enough....why flame them on them internet.....he did not rip you off or anything.

Again Ca2or not trying to say you cant say what you want. Just mabey he had a off day. It happens.

That is sure one happy looking baby. Looks like the falls were pretty much no people. Summertime that place is packed. Love the starfish also.

  10. First, before you do anything, make sure your test kits are correct. To drop calcium, stop your reactor and dose just the alk side of two part. Dose daily and keep watching your numbers until the calcium comes down to your target. Then start your reactor again. Calcium reactor dosing, and coral uptake, can only be done in the proper ratios. Either you added something (calcium sup), or your salt could be high in calcium. What are the numbers of your make-up water?

It takes a lot of mag supplement to raise. Here is a good review of how to make your own:

    http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-07/rhf/index.php

Try to keep mag at around 1,300. There are calculators that tell you exactly how much to add to get to your target.

    What are your numbers?

You can trust those calculators also. I used kent turbo cal and followed it and it was to the T perfect. Also dosed mag with epsom salt to raise it from like 900 to 1350 and it also was spot on accurate.

I was surprised how accurate it was.

I have one of those microsoft natural keyboards that I got cheap used and it is really hard to type without mistakes so please understand if my spelling is way off lately. Its just to much of a pain in the rear to go correc6 a bunch of mistakes. I will be getting a new keyboard soon.

  11. How do you keep your temp from dropping too low?

I have my heater on a controller, so even if it gets stuck, it can't nuke anything (unless the controller goes, too!), but without a heater the temps would go down too far at night.

We keep our house at 64F overnight, and then 69F during the day.

Josh, how did your tank fare last night?

My tank necver drops below 78 degrees. Its big enough to retain its heat overnight then the lights kick in and heat the tank. Plus my refugium light is on a reverse sunlight schedule.

  12. I dont like heaters as they malfunction and can quickly cook your tank. I had one of thos titanium heaters that malfunctioned and almost nuked everything but I noticed things not looking right when it was up to 87. I saved everything that time.....out went the heaters. I use one on my water change vessel.
