  1. So I took jdv's advice and got the 75g from Animal House in Oregon City for $99.99. I did some drilling and modifications on it tonight. I also started a new Reef Junkie thread (book 2) for the tank. Check it out!

    dsoz :)

Will check it out right now!

  2. They said that all they could find were the 30g cube/stand combos and not the tanks themselves.

An interesting thing is that there were Oceanic cubes, but they were labeled as AGA 22 gallon cube tanks even though they clearly had the Oceanic stamp/label on the front of the tank.

Hmm, weird; it could have been merchandized wrong or a fluke.

You'll see a lot of 22G Oceanic kits, I don't think they're part of the sale, same with the 30G which seems to be harder to come by now.

  3. Hey JDV does this apply to all Petcos in Oregon? Later Ryan

All Petco's nationwide. I would call atleast 9am on Sunday to check stock though. Mostly everything is sold within the first day, and last year we were not allowed to special order anything during that week, so it was limited to in-stock only.

  4. Bob,

That will be a hard sell. I have had this tank less than a week.

Here is how the conversation would go.

"Hun, I need a bigger stand for my tank, so I can put a 40 gallon tank under it as my sump."

    "NO!"

I'm in the same boat. She's reading this while I type this.

I want a 40B for my FW Shrimp tank. (sad) But it could be a nice reef too.

  5. Welcome jdv! Any chance there'll be a 15L? I think it's 12 x 12 x 24.

It look's like it's only limited from 20-55G this time, but I could be wrong. They added the Oceanic models last second last year so they could add some smaller size tanks this year.

  6. Well then if the 75 is not included, then I will go out and get one tomorrow. :)

Thanks for the inside scoop on the tank sale. Many people will be poised and ready to go on that Sunday I am sure.

What meds do you use in the display tank to treat ick? I have heard that people have had success with RubyReef KickIck. I have not used it myself. When my fish had ick, they went in a quarantine tank and I used some copper ick med. that someone gave to me. Good luck with the treatment.

I hope that you can make it to the BBQ this month so that we can put a face with the name.

    dsoz :)

    Thanks guys.

We have to use a organophosphate (Clout), but many use to use Rid-Ich. A lot of the ingredients in these products i've searched on I've heard mixed talk about, so I end up pulling out all the LR, invertebrates, etc and putting them into rubbermaids just to play it safe. The previous person working in the department use to freshwater dip, but it didn't do anything, I honestly thought he was just putting more stress on the fish.

I would prefer to do a hyposalanity treatment or copper, of course in quarantine.

  7. Now I need to wait to get more information...

I agree with Doran about having someone that knows what they are doing working at petco as a manager. That way the livestock has a chance of being treated well.

Which store do you work for? How is the selection and pricing on the livestock?

    dsoz

Okay, I have details on the sale. The sale starts the last Sunday of the of this month and will go on until the following Sunday. So you're local deal for $100 for a 75E is better.

The tanks that will be on sale are only AGA-20H, 20L, 29G, 40B and 55G all in black. Unfortunately there is no word on Oceanic tanks so I do not think they are a part of the sale. I had a ton of tanks ordered up today, so there should be a decent stock atleast.

I work for the Towncenter store. As for the livestock, our aquatics "specialist" recently left our store, and left the tanks in pretty bad shape. I've been working the last week or so repairing all the equipment and cleaning the systems, but we had a nasty ich outbreak on our marine system; which so far I've been unsuccessful at treating. The bad part is, we do not have a quarantine tank so we have to treat our fish on the display tanks, which limits any treatments that we can do, so I have been fighting hard to get quarantine tanks. I'm only one voice though. The selection right now is not great, Damsels, three stripe, Blue chromis, Blue Yellow Tails. True Percula's (IIRC), Maroons, Clarkii, Tomato Clowns. Yellow Tangs, Coral Beautys, Sixline Wrasse, Lawn Mower Blenny, Firefish Goby, and a Snowflake Moray Eel that I rescued. We have WAY too much Fiji LR. Next week we should be getting some new fish in, a couple of new Tangs, Shrimp, Anemones. As long as I can recover everything, I'll be getting a much better variety in the future. The pricing, well, I don't recall any prices off the top of my head, Sorry.

  8. jdv, do you know if this will also be for the 75gal? THat is the size that I am looking for.

I was just about to go buy a 75g for $100. But I can wait if I know that I can get one for $75. :)

by the way, welcome to our site. You should share your story in the members tank section. Tell us what you have (or what you want to get), so that we know a little about who you are.

Do you work at petco? If you do it is nice to have someone with inside information on the sales. :)

    dsoz :)

    Thanks,

I don't have a reef tank set up yet, last year I purchased a 72B to setup as my first saltwater/reef tank, we also had a Oceanic 33G which after we filled and had sitting for about 2 weeks, ended up shattering along the rim of the bottom and leaked out all the water onto our 3rd story apartment floor and into our neighbor's below us apartment. Luckily, at the same time, our neighbors directly next to us had their shower leak into the bottom apartments, so we skated free. I put the 72B on the back burner until we move out next year. All I have right now is a 29G FW planted tank (low-tech), but I'm planning on a nano-reef setup, i've been researching it for the last year or so, and found this place with tons of great information. :)

I do work for them as a manager, I've worked for them in 3 different states, which I hesitate saying because some of the other forums scolded me over it; I didn't want to get run off this forum too, I particularly love the LFS's up here. So if anyone does want a tank, I will be more than happy to have them ordered up so we can have a supply for the sale.

I will look into the 75 for you.

  9. Well, I'll also find out what store has the cubes too as well.

I forgot to add, there is also a 22 gallon cube too as well, I'll find out if it is going on sale too as well.

The 30C's are in limited supply right now as far as I know. However, if you want me get one, let me know.

  10. What exactly was last years sale on aga tanks? $1 a gallon?

    Thanks for the welcome. :D

    It was AGA 20H, 20L, 29G, 40B, 55G for $1/gallon.

It also expanded to Oceanic 30C, 30H. $1/gallon.

All the stands should be on sale too. I will find an exact date today along with a list of tanks for sale. There are a couple of new tanks being carried, one that comes to mind is an AGA 45 gallon. Just like last year I don't believe tanks can be special ordered or rain checked, I do know of a store stocking up though :D

Right after the sale, they usually have another sale, buy the tank, get the stand free. I returned a 55 gallon and got credit for it, and purchased a 72B setup with it.

  11. First post after lurking for so long (scary)

The sale starts in september, I don't remember the exact date, I can find this out though.

I believe it will be identical to last years sale, AGA tanks up to 55G and specific Oceanic tanks, also can find this out too as well.
